Cessna 182 Scale Build
I have decided to start my own build thread on the Top-Flite Cessna 182. Many thanks go to Teookie and others that have posted here on this build. I don't want to hi-jack anyones thread so I have decided to start my own. This is going to be a slow build, I want to do a lot of scale extras with the airplane. I will post pictures of the progress, although it will be SLOW. Maybe this thread will keep me more motivated.
I have decided on a Futaba 9 channel computer radio and the BME 90 gas engine. Still working on a way to keep the aileron controls hidden in the wing, and a more scale flap operation.
Well....here goes

Nice building Nzak, good luck for the rest! The Cessna 182 is an interesting subject! Everything looks good yet. I know that it is a little bit soon but have you any thoughts of paint?
Waiting for the next pictures

Gandelin, I am still trying to find a 182 at an airport nearby to get some pics and model mine after. Not sure about paint yet, until I find the right 182.
More pictures coming tomorrow...

RE: Cessna 182 Scale Build
I went a little crazy with the TF 182 and bult two of them. One on wheels and the other on floats. Great models and fun to fly. O.S .61 in the wheel version and O.S. .91 in the marine version. Obviously lots of experience with this ship, if I can be of assistance let me know.
Here are some pics

Nice looking planes Bish! Looks like u glassed them? Do you know how much the wheeled version weighs? I am concerned that mine may turn into a pig and don't really want the high stall speed with it. Should have some more pics posted tonight

Nzak,
The plane weighs just under 12 lbs. It is glassed except I use clear nitrate dope instead of resin. It's easier to work with (less mess) and it weighs less.
Have not noticed any tendency toward high speed stalls. You have to kind of fly it right down to the ground as it wants to float in ground affect.

RE: Cessna 182 Scale Build
Thanks for the information Bish. I really appreciate it.
Got some pictures to post finally, the wing center section and the left win coming together...
While assembling the center section, I realized the wing bolt plates were going to be a tight fit. I decided to put them in at the same time as the rest of the ribs and spars and glue them at the same time. the instructions have them being installed a few steps later after gluing the ribs and spars together. There was no way I was going to fit them in without some balsa splinters and a few 'choice' words. Just a heads up for anyone who may be reading and thinking of building this plane.
I will try to put as much information about the build as I can along with the pics and any trouble I run into. I am hoping for a great flying aircraft along with tons of scale attributes.
Thanks for reading

RE: Cessna 182 Scale Build
Some pictures of the left wing, which is built upside down over the right wing plans.
I like the spar doublers that run from W-4 to W-9, should add a lot of strength to the wing, even with the Cessna having wing struts. I have seen some pictures of them flying around without the struts attached, which gives me some extra confidence in the overall strength of this airframe.

Here are the rest of the pictures, before gluing the ribs to the spars along with the aft inner spar and aft outer spar.
I may have to start building the right wing up to this same point before going any farther. I have plans for a scale way to fuel the 182 so I need to get my engine and fuel tanks together before I can go much farther.

RE: Cessna 182 Scale Build
Love those T pins,
When you build the motor mount, be careful as it is easy to build it upside down. I know as I did it....twice! When you are working on the fuse in the cabin area, be careful to get the angle of the bulkhead which goes between the front and back seats correct. It is a bit tricky and if not done right you will end up with the bulkhead too close to the aft window.
Enjoying your build.

RE: Cessna 182 Scale Build
You are going to love that plane. It dresses up very nicely into a good sport scale subject and flies great. Mine is powered (overpowered) with an OS .90, equipped with flaps, lights, and full interior. It flies nicely at half throttle, and really boogies at full throttle! The plane has become one of my everyday flyer.
If I knew how to post pictures, I would. :P

RE: Cessna 182 Scale Build
Bish and Mangus, you using the two stroke .90 I take it? I am reconsidering my engine choices and seriously considering the O.S. .91 four stroke with pump.
I am also thinking of modifications for a Cessna 182S instead of the Q. Moving the landing lights and changing the air intake, etc.
Any thoughts??
