Bob,
You need to use safety wire to keep the turn buckles from loosening up. Your favorite hobby shop should have some.

RE: World Models 33% Ultimate
thanks for the suggestion about safety wire. After actually nearly giving myself a heat-stroke trying to assemble this S.O.B. with the "stock" wires and turnbuckles, I've copied Francis' hose clamp idea, with a couple of mods.
I have always believed an airplane that takes longer to put together than the first flight lasts is an airplane that needs redesign. This one, with it's turnbuckles, is just absolutely the WORST.
So I have "new" wires, and they attach to the interplane strut "pins" using Sullivan flying wire strap/ends, then are looped through my "hose clamp" adjusters. I made them similarly to Francis, silver-brazed hook eyes on the screw parts. Ain't real pretty, but takes all of ten minutes to do now.
Way better.
(Also now understand why we didn't hear much about this bird.... and why AW would have dropped it like a hot potato. There are WAY easier ways to design things.)
I am, of course, very hopeful that it will fly SO well that it will make up for all this b.s.
P.S. - You should note the bottom wing is 3/4" longer in span (per panel) than the top wing. I asked World Models about this, and they said "yes, that is the way it is supposed to be". If anything, a bipe should always have the TOP wing with larger area, NOT the bottom one. My own opinion on this is that it was a "oops", and rather than fix it, they just pressed ahead. Another reason that we probably haven't heard much of this bird.

RE: World Models 33% Ultimate
Hi Guys
I would like to know what throw settings would be the best for the initial triming of the model.
The model is now ready for it's fist engine start up.
Today we have been balanceing the model it only required 400g of lead to balance it out. Quite suprised on this as you well know we have the Ultimate with a ZDZ80RV-J which she whight 1kilo les than the average 100cc twin.
We have decided to place the CG just behind the top wing tubing. More or less about 5" 3/4 inches from the leading edge.
I know that there has been lost of descussion on the Ultimates CG but i have not seen any Videos or facts to confirme the correct CG,
Good question would be is the WM Ultimate the same as the Aeroworks Ultimate CG.

RE: World Models 33% Ultimate
My research has supported the idea that the AW *is* the World Models, so I'm going with that. IN fact, mine *was* an Aeroworks kit, and I completed all the assembly using the World Models online 33% manual. Everything was the same, parts labels, shapes, measurements, all of it.
The CG of 5 3/4" is probably very good. That's where I'm at, and I had to move my two of my A123-2300 packs to the engine box to get there.
I also setup all travels per the manual. Rudd 85mm, elev 20mm, ailerons 30mm. That's what I set for my LOW rates.... so that I have a lot more if needed.
Francis - your finish and color scheme is just beautiful. VERY good looking, and far, far better than the stock ugly World Models schemes. You have done a terrific job with it!!!!!!!

RE: World Models 33% Ultimate
Probably. Depends on several things; I still have an interplane strut to plug and re-drill because of the incidence jigs being off, and some final tweaks on wires/hatch, etc. Recheck of servo programming, etc. You know.
I'd also prefer more runway and less muddy ruts....
Mainly depends on the steenkin' weather....

Hi Bob
Thanks for the complement, glad to read that you like it so much.
Well I have just started the ZDZ 80 RV-J for the first time. It sounds fantastic.

RE: World Models 33% Ultimate
I have measured the top and bottom wing span, and as you well said, the bottom has a bigger span than the top.
The Top measures 76 1/4"
and the Bottom measures 78 1/2"

RE: World Models 33% Ultimate
I just finished re-doing my rigging setup to copy Francis'. It is just amazing how well it worked, and how easy it is to assemble.
Install bottom wing. Install interplane struts/pins/wires to TOP wing. Install top wing. Start the top wing rigging screws. Attach bottom interplane pins/clevis/wires, start the rigging screws. Snug all up, done!!!!!!!
Just an amazingly-simple, and VERY effective idea, Francis. I owe you for sharing your idea here; I would have never figured out such an elegant solution. Thank you VERY much!!!!!!
Some pics attached.

RE: World Models 33% Ultimate
Bob and Francis,
Just a word of caution with the technique you are using for attaching the flying wires. First of all I've only had one plane with functional flying wires, so I don't qualify as an expert. It would be wise to run your planes on the ground for a while before your maiden flights. I'd be concerned about the modified hose clamps loosening up do to vibration. You should not tighten the flying wires very tight otherwise they will either break or pull out the attachment points do to the flying loads, been there done that. Consequently, if the flying wires are some what "loose", the clamps might vibrate loose. "Loose" is hard to define, but tension should be light and not "violin" tight.

RE: World Models 33% Ultimate
Points well-written, and well-taken. I have had functional flying wires before, and overly-tight is bad, as is "loose", as you describe.
I am safety-wiring the screws in the clamps to prevent them loosening; it takes almost no time to do it, and the safety wire I use is just plain ol' garden wire from Walmart, easy to twist by hand, similar to a bread tie.
Running on the ground is DEFINITELY in the plan, as I must range check, vibration check, etc., so you are correct in that, too.
Thanks for the reminders about these things; sometimes easy to overlook the obvious.

RE: World Models 33% Ultimate
ALLRIGHTY!!!!!!!!!!! It isn't cherry anymore, but it is still PERFECT!!!!!!!!! YEEE HAAA!
The DL 100 is perfect (see info on DL thread). The 27 x 10 fairly well allmost rips, and the airplane is pretty much Unlimited.
Taxi test felt very solid, almost heavy. Tracked well. Brought back, range checked, rechecked all hardware - all good.
Hot restart on 3rd flip, taxi out, pointed into the wind, blast off. So the DL coughed a bit (low end rich, I'm sure), caught, then we were off. Gentle climb out showed I needed up elev and left aileron, but power was unreal.
Flew a couple of gentle racetracks, getting the feel of stuff. This is a large airplane, and although nimble, it feels "big", lots bigger than it looks. Very, very solid and predictable.
Slowed up to approach and realized it was a "real" airplane. Took me back to my Taylorcraft days. She settled in with no bounces on the mains, after I got a little behind the curve.
Next flight was more of the same but shot 4 touch and goes to be sure I knew the approach handling, did some snaps, loops, rolls, hammerheads....nice solid aerobatic airframe, and I'm happy.
The "manual rates" are *NOT* enough.... I was worried about not having enough elevator, or aileron, so I'm happy I went to high rates. The full aileron at +/- 30mm works REAL well. Rudder is pretty effective, elevator not so much, but I know I'm slightly nose heavy.
All in all, a complete success. Thanks to Francis M for the rigging fix that all worked perfectly. Nothing loosened up, nothing fell off. This is a great airplane, and I look forward to many more hours.
