RE: 42% Super Decathlon Build
Good looking stuff Marcus and DMicheal, Marcus thank you for your help on the instrument panel. After getting Corel draw I was able to open your file, adjusted size to fit my 33% and printed what I needed. Seeing all this progress, hope this gets me fired-up to finish mine. Thanks again Joe.

Dave, I forgot to mention that as the SD came from the factory, at least the one we modeled, the SD did not have rib stitching. The fabric was secured with small screws and the screws were covered with non-pinked tape. We used dress sequins glued on to simulate the screws. Here are a few photos.

RE: 42% Super Decathlon Build
We now have 50 flights on the Super Decathlon and the plane is still in very good condition. The only issues that we have had lately have been with the DA-150 engine and muffler.
The muffler that Ross designed and ASIL Custom Welding welded has held up very well. Three small cracks developed that needed to be re welded. See photos. We have been having trouble starting the engine. Once started it ran fine. We would put the choke on with ignition on and a click above idle. One would prop the engine while the other guy would open the choke, using the transmitter, as soon as the engine fired. He would close the choke if the engine started to die and back and forth until the engine ran OK. I decided to rebuild the carb (Walbro WB27-1) with the Walbro K10-WB kit which I ordered. While the carb was off I decided to pull the reed bank and look it over. There were very pronounced holes in two of the reeds. See photos. I ordered a set of reeds from DA. I really don't see how the engine was running as well as it was with the gapping holes. For future reference, Tony at DA said that the low carb needle should be 5/8 turn out and the high carb needle should start at 2 turns out.
I'll give another report after everything is put back together and we run it.

I will Michel. Here are a couple more reed bank photos. Notice the interesting non symmetrical shape. Also notice how much orange towel is showing through the reeds in the bottom view. You can imagine how hard it was to start.

Hi Tony, it is approximately 51 3/8''. The stab is removable but it is probably more trouble than you would want to go to on a regular basis.

You guys have been very informative in this thread. Thank you again.

RE: 42% Super Decathlon Build
Tony - Our Decathlon was a fun build and a wonderful flyer. Wood quality was the best we have seen. The laser work, fit and alignment was dead on. Very easy to build a straight airframe. I was talking when I shouldn't have been and claimed that this would be the first truly "no trim" airplane. We were within two cliks of elevator trim of succeeding. Michel and Dany are very easy to work with and very helpful. We had a gentleman in KC do an instrument panel which was truly a work of art. Go for it!

Tony, I would also highly recommend that you build the kit. It was a lot of fun to build and you would get a lot of personal satisfaction doing it. The parts really fit together well. AMR did a very good job engineering this kit. If you do build it then be sure to post photos on this thread. There are enough experienced builders watching this thread that you can always get answers to any questions you might have.

I'm also looking forward to flying this wonderful Decathlon. With a ZDZ 210, she has power to spare.

RE: 42% Super Decathlon Build
I agree with you. This is the only glue i use now with some epoxy for the more critical areas. How do you like the build so far? Was the design and the laser cutting acceptable for you? We did two new decathlon at AMR. A 25% and a 35%. These are new designs based on what i learn with the big 42% Decathlon.
