Default RE: Building the Hangar 9 Cessna 182 Skylane

Hello fiifi ward

I follow this thread because I have the Cessna H9 NIB . At the moment I work on my CmP Cessna. Next winter I plan building my H9.
And I notice you talk about scale wheel and brake. And I agree with you . The Hangar 9 Cessna are not complete without scale wheels and brake. I already make the decision.
I give up the wheel pant.

My wheels are not "pure Cessna scale" but this wheels are high quality ,very very nice to look at, so I like to see the wheels. If you want I can make some information about this
brake system, how the control work air bottle etc etc. And of course some extra photos .

I Agree with Andy about the engine. I have the same OS 160 Gemini. Really nice equipment nice sound and also nice to look at. I also plan to mount the on board starter from Fema.
And remember..on Bord glow. On board glow, and set it on from ca. 2000 r/ min >you have perfect idle speed. Slow and the right sound

I try to upload photos but I can see the pictures on this site. I try again later with the photos.

I really like this thread and the contact to you nice people . I know my spelling from time to time is wrong []. Hope you forgive me

Flemming

Andy, a guy who was going through ads on here contacted me. I don't want to mention his name. I'd like to officially thank him for selling me the ARF. He had it new in a box for about two years or so. Thanks once again brother!
That's great, I'm glad it worked for you.

I'm thinking of going JR DS8411's Are they over kill for the control surfaces? I'll go with lesser torque for nose gear, throttle and breaks. Let me know what ya'll think.

I was looking at the wings late last night and realized that the servo bases in the wings do not have a bracket or brace for the servo's to fit in. Did you guys make your own? Also were you able to find a way of not gluing your servo braces/brackets on the skin of the wing. I would like to find a way of using the wing beams as a support instead. All ideas are welcome guys.

OK,.. I'm trying not to get over excited here and go all out on a spending spree, but I feel I have to dress this baby up after the 182T Cessna. First of the nav lights are housed in the tip leading edge of the wings and the strobes are mounted on the side of the wing edge, almost centered as shown in the following pictures below. Also the cockpits for the 182 Cessna is the glass version with a few dial gauges. Does any know if there are cockpit gadgets modelled after this variation?

Also for those who are using Saito 182 twin for power, has anyone thought about having an onboard starter? I called hobby-lobby to enquire and they said they have one that would fit this engine but I want to be absolutely sure that it will fit. Last question for the eve... Did anyone run their servos and electronis through a Power box first,.. that is not directly to the receiver. I have a spare Powerbox 40/24 with a futaba 6014 receiver to used. One thing I noticed is that the powerbox has 7 input channels, leaving 7 extra on the receiver. I intend not to run any equipment directly to the receiver. Is this possible? If I exceed the 7 channels on the powerbox, does this mean that I have to get another powerbox? Man this plane is starting to drain me LOL!

Here goes the captains side door outline. Will trace this outline and apply that to the passenger side. My edges were'nt all that smooth, but it will do for now.

He fiifiward

Yes.....this beautiful aircraft need a lot of equipment ! I also have the power box 40/24 and this power box is enough. Use the power box to the servo on aileron elevator flaps
etc etc. And you can connect switch for light, throttle servo direct on the receiver. This equipments don't need much power (milliamp) so it is okay with direct receiver contact.

And..this power box or equal is absolutely needed on this aircraft. You have double power support and the power consuming for your servo came from power box. Lot of Rc pilot
tried to lose their model because one single cell in the battery pack go out of order( You know Murphy[&o]). You and I will never see that whit the power box .

Here in Denmark it is very late now. 00.10 PM so I look in direction off my bed[X(]. I have not forget I owe you information about wheels and brakes.

have a nice day and happy building

Hi Hammersfly:

I need your help if you don't mind. I purchased a Powerbox Competition two years ago and I am just trying to see if I can get it to work. I have plugged in a Duralite 2900 mah into bat socket1 and a Duralite 4300 mah into socket 2. I connected all channels to receiver and inserted one of my servo's into channel 1. My servo will not work. Is there anything special to be done, or should I assume that the Powerbox is hosed. I'll be pissed if it is the latter. Any assistance or suggestion on what to try to get it to work will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

fiifiward,

I found this link on Robart's website to compact brakes they make. Here is the link http://www.robart.com/Brakes.aspx and here are a couple of pictures.

Well - that was an easy task to solve.
They have invented this device to be deployed from float-planes when you wish to stop:

The 182 does very well on floats. I have seen other sized 182's (not the Hangar 9 95" model) fly with floats and it is very stable in the air and on the water. I would suspect if you put big enough floats on this plane it would fly equally as well.

Hi fiifiward

Offcauce I help.If I can help you. I don't have musts experience with the power box. But one think I remember. You have the Power Box 40/24 Professional !? The mah is not important for your problem. My only gues is the jumber on the underside off the powerbox. Read the folowing text I copy / paste from the manual.

You can choose whether to install four-cell or five-cell batteries in your model. A bridging plug (jumper) on the underside of the unit on the right-hand side allows you to set the battery type you wish to use. The PowerBox 40/24 Professional is sup-plied as standard with the jumper fitted, i.e. the default is for five-cell operation. If you wish to use a four-cell receiver battery, simply remove the jumper. Re-fit it, and the voltage monitor is set to work with five cells again.
Is this jumper in the correct position ? If not..make it correct and then test the power box again .

I am looking forward to here the result.[:-]

And I still have some job to do! Information/ photos about wheels and brake system. Coming soon.

regards
Flemming

Flemming,

I lost my job at the end of April, so I have not spent any time on my 182. I have been working on a job search but I am beginning to think that I just might start my own company as I have marketable skills and I believe that I can support my family this way. Still it is a big step and it is one that I should not enter into without doing a lot of research and soul searching. Once I get my mind back on building I will resume work on the 182. The good news is that I have been doing some flying so at least I have that going for me.

Hi Andy

I am sorry to hear so. I understand you have had other things on your mind than rc airplanes. What kind of jobs did you have .. and what kind of business do you intend to start? Although there will not be much time for rc construction, I would like to keep in touch. You can use my direct email if you have news you would like to tell me

I hope for you that you will find a good solution

Flemming,

I'm a marketing guy. At my last job I was director of marketing for a geothermal heat pump company. I am looking for a Vice President of Marketing position. If I do start a business it will more than likely be a consulting business focusing on marketing, advertising, & public relations. I will also on marketing management, and sales training.

Thanks for your email address. My email address is [email protected].
