RIPPED OFF, ANY SUGGESTIONS?
Maybe one or more of you can offer me some advice. In a nutshell, here is what happened.
I needed an engine so I looked on RCU and found something used that would work.
I specifically asked the seller to measure the width measurements,
with plug caps on, to determine if the enginewould fit my airplane. I had 11 inches to work with.
He emailed me back, twice, that he measured it and it was just a hair under 11 inches. I
told him the manufacturers web site indicated 12 inches. He retorted that his engine was a different
design and was less. So, I sent him a check. After it cleared he sent me the engine. It is 12 inches wide,
will NOT fit, not even close. I emailed him my concern and he tells me that "That's the way it IS"!
His name is Garry Parks out of Melbourne, Florida.
What recourse do I have?
Thanks.
Frank

I had the same problem with trying to fit a twin in a 11 inch wide cowl so I bought a ignition for using 1/4 x 32 plugs. I then went out and bought a ZDZ80 single to use insteat so I don't need it anymore. I forget where I bought it, but I'll sell you it for what I paid:
Ignition $75
2 plugs $20
2 14mm adapters $20

Hey Mr.T, Check out WrongWayRC. Richard has the plugs and adapters to convert it to the small plugs. Might work for ya.

If you can make the plug conversion work then your in luck, but either way, contact a RCU mod and inform them of the situation, and leave a negative feedback on his seller history. Just be sure to forward e-mails to the moderator that show the query's on the engine width that also show his responses. Unfortunatly, on here, we only get a few lines to describe what went wrong with the transaction.

Next time ask to see a picture of the measurement. Would have solved all your issues from the get go.

While this is a true statement, the modeler should stand behind his word. Misrepresentation and fraud is as bad as stealing. My word is my honor and I refuse to mislead any modeler into purchasing an item I'm selling if I willingly know its not what the buyer is looking for, especially if the buyer is a stones throw away. As mentioned before, get RCU involved. I'm sure this can be resolved.

Very true.......but I live by this motto......Trust but Verify. Could be an honest mistake in measuring by the person or that they didn't know what they were doing or they were trying to just dump the merchandise.

It really makes you wonder,...how many dishonest deals go through the RCU system and nobody does anything. If it were an in-state deal here in CT and the ad didn't say "AS IS", then anyone could take the other person to court for fraud, and in CT it can be up to 10X's the value if proven fradulent. IE, check the ad he sold you the merchendise and check the fraud laws if you want to go that far.

RE: RIPPED OFF, ANY SUGGESTIONS?
Thanks for all the input.
I have decided to put this to bed.
I am planning to visit his area next week and will confront him face to face.
I have all the emails showing that I asked for a measurement and his
response that the measurement was less than 11 inches when indeed it is 12.
Worse case for me is that I got beat. Worse case for him, he has to live with being a liar.
Thanks again, this thread is over.
