Completed Kyosho Sukhoi
Just finished up and thought I would share with you. I am suprised that there have not been more of these converted. Granted...these planes are a bit on the heavy side and kyosho could lighten them up considerably, but nontheless, it was a simple conversion.
Powerplant:
Mega 22/30/2
Superbox 3.33
15X10 APC
CC P-80
UBEC
4- HS225BB's
14-HRSC 2600's and soon a 4S4P 8000mah TP's
Amps: ~54.3
Thrust- 119oz
Weight 91 oz
Prop ps- 62 mph
Motor Mount

RE: Completed Kyosho Sukhoi
I should have the test flight on it this weekend. It is the same power plant that I am using in my H9 Funtana yet it is 7 oz lighter than the Funtana. So it ought to do very well.

Atlantaeflyer,
I think you have choosen a very good setup! a geard high reving motor foten turns out to be the best for maximum power! but why not prop it for 65A... as it only would be needed for fast climbs I think your flight times can be helt the same.
91oz is not too bad! I got a 76oz Ky CAP 232, but I ripped the covering and made quite a lot of cutting in the wood

Thanks Henke. I am trying to keep it below 60 amps so I wont have to watch my throttle when I switch to Thunda's. I may try a 16X10 if my LHS has one. I should have the flight reports by tomorrow. Wish me luck .

RE: Completed Kyosho Sukhoi
It was a success! Flew like a champ. I was getting lots of hits today but flew three times and got two on tape. The first one took a huge radio hit after take off, so I immediately landed. The second time, I was taking hits, but nothing too severe. I almost lost it in a stall on the third flight, but luckily I was two mistakes high (trying to hover ). This plane (I quickly figured out, is not a 3D plane, but man it is smoooooottttthhh in sequence and quite faster than I am accustomed too. Landings are hot as well, but the thing I couldnt get over, was the tail only snap rolls as they were a blur. I kept the flights to around 3 minutes for the first three flights. Great powerplant for this plane.

Nice job on your Sukhoi conversion!
I was going to warn you about the flight differences but kept quiet. I have also noticed that I must transition from my 3D flying style to a performance aerobatic flying style when flying my Extra 300S and military aircraft. These actually require more flying skills than my 3D planes.
Until you get into 25%-40% size planes, the wingloading is too high on these thinner aerobatic airfoils for 3D maneuvers. The electric conversions typically add even more weight.
Did you add the hatch to the top of the fuselage on your Sukhoi for battery access?

RE: Completed Kyosho Sukhoi
Thanks guys.
Greg,
I added the hatch by figuring out where the CG was going to be and then took some balsa sticks and framed the inside to keep the shape of the fuse. Then just took a combination of an exacto knife and tiny saw and cut through the sheeting and stringers. Clear Monokote makes up the hinge and I used three rare earth magnets to hold the hatch down.
Henke,
I am either going with a Berg or FMA. I was suspecting my radio at first as I lost my 40e CAP to a hit an hour earlier on a completely different reciever. I may send my JR 8103 off to have a check up regardless. Never can be too careful.

What about the hits? I have a couple of brushlesses that get hits all the time is there a cure?

The hits have nothing to do with the motor being brusheless. The hits are radio interference. I would suspect either the transmitter or reciever. I am sending my 8103 off to Horizon to be tuned just in case, as it has been a couple of years.

RE: Completed Kyosho Sukhoi
Very Nice Sukhoi. I too have had the Sukhoi "duck and cover" on me with a little too much elevator. I later learned that the recommended CG and control throws were moved and I was using "old" ones. I made the changes and no more surprises.
I presently own the Kyosho with and OS 70 FS but I'm thinkng on buying this beauty (link below) which is very "Sukhoi-ish" and putting in the same motor/SC/LiPolys you have since I have them laying around.

RE: Completed Kyosho Sukhoi
That skydancer is a looker. I have roughly about 30 flights on this plane so far and have really gotten the feel for it. I have another video that I can post later although it is short (cameraman got tired of trying to keep up with it ). I am flying it on a 4$4P 8ah Thunderpower pack now and the wingloading is so much lighter than with the round cells and landings are a breeze, verticle is insane and snaps are a blur. Overall I really enjoy this plane.
