RE: Funtana Conversion Battery Question
Guys
I test flew my rebuilt Funtana with the geared AXI today. I had to put 4 .oz weight in the nose for balance. The AXI is lighter than the previous motor and I am using a 4S instead of 5S pack. It is not as fast as before but is a good sport flyer with this temporary setup. I had no overheating or shut down motorproblems.

I am going to ask Chuck at Graves RC in Orlando what he thinks about the Feagio motors. I may GB a AXI 282610. These HL motors have a great warrenty. I am getting 500+ watts out of a 250 watt DD AXI 282010 motor by GBing it. The 282610 is a 500 watt motor DD so it should have lots more power GB'd. And I would not have to change the Mounting system.

I have finished the rebuild, added air flow, test flown the bird and finally put on the new decals. Almost like new.
Repair cost:
Decals $13.95
Covering $11.00
Glue$5.00
Canopy$6.00
No new wood was needed!

I can find no usable info on the Feagio motors. The guys at Graves have no grapevine talk either. I have decided to get and GB the AXI 282610. It is a 500 watt motor DD and should give me 700 plus geared. My smaller 282010 is a 250 watt motor and I get 500 watts when I gear it. It will fly the Funtana well but not 3D on 3 or 4S lipos. I know that Hobby Lobby stands behind their motors. My son wants the 282010 for his PIGI.

Bhouin and others,
HL has lowered the price on its Advance controllers and AXI motors. My order is in and should be here by Friday. Hope to test fly by Sunday.

RE: Funtana Conversion Battery Question
StephenT; You mention you had to take out some right thrust from your Funtana. Did you add extra thrust or did you use what the firewall provided? It appears to have quite a bit built into it already. Mine is 90% finished with an AXI 4120/18 & Jeti 70 Opto ESC..............

Mine had extra R hand thrust because I had a minor crash before the big one and the aft part of the fuselage was bent to the right when I glued it back. The stock factory input should be fine.

RE: Funtana Conversion Battery Question
Hi Bob; I'm now finishing all of the final touchs....linkages, etc. I also am waiting for a landing gear from Fiberlite Products. You will be one of the first to know how things go...Thanks for all of the help/suggestions.
StephenT; Looking good.... What size prop did you finally decide on, 14x7?

RE: Funtana Conversion Battery Question
Hello,
I just wanted to update on my Funtana since today was its first flights.
My set up again, Astro 40g, castle PHX 80 amp esc, 6v bec, 16x8e apc prop, thunder power 6s2pV prolite pack. AWESOME!!!!! 800 watts- 6500 rpm- UNLIMITED VERTICAL!!! Had 12 awesome mniutes of flight , in an easy 15 mph wind today! This was only the second charge on a brand new pack!!! (My TP usually have gotten slightly better with time! The plane stripped of its covering and recovered in Nelson Light/ Solite Films weights in at a astounding 5 1/4 LBS! Carbon fiber gear, light foam wheels and all I still needed a 2oz heavy hub to balance the model, same it it was with the .46 fuel motor I had. I hoped for a Funtana under 6 LBS, and opting with the Thunder Power verse the Apogee was the need for a 6s2p pack that apogee does not have available. Have heard talk of 5000 mah cells coming this summer if all goes well. Honestly, Thanks to Charlie Yang at Thunder Power, this special made pack fit the plane without digging out the fuse formers to make room for the pack. A battery tray of ply and a motor box I made of ply were the only changes to the stock air frame. Which I feel was necessary to keep the fuse Strong and let me use the light weight films. I know I dropped 1oz alone of the fuse covering so I estimate a 5-6 oz savings in covering. I plane to be at SEFF with this and some other !QUOT!sucky!QUOT! Astroflight powered planes this year. Other than a lonely Himaxx 2015 and Mega 16/15/4, its all Astro motors!!! Just like my instructor and friend I have learned from this passed year and 1/2, I too feel if you paid more for it than a Astro motor, YOU GOT ROBBED! (Honestly cant take away from the other companies motors, the all have pros and cons- for the price to power ratio, cant go wrong with an Astro motor! 1/2 the price of a c50 acro, better get the Astro 40g before the price goes up! 180.00 is a steal for this gem!!! Take my opinion with a grain of salt, cause I don't know what the Heck I'm doing.

RE: Funtana Conversion Battery Question
Guys
My switch to the AXI 282610 geared 2:1 was a dissapointment. The most watts I could get with what I have is 630 watts with a 6S lipo pack and 17x8 prop. It pulls too many amps (46) for my lipo pack (limited to 42) so I was unable to test fly it. I will try a bigger prop and 5S. Maybe a 17x10 or I will have to pair up my lipo's.

RE: Funtana Conversion Battery Question
Guys
The 5S2P w/a 17x10 prop gave me 700 watts but the GB started too rattle. I tried several other smaller props and came up with a 15x10 that doesn't cause a rattle. It gives 585 watts. I think the GB can't handle the torque. I have a smaller 14 tooth pinion I can try later in place of the 16 tooth, then I might be able to prop up again.

Guys
Dead Again!!
It was my own fault. The Aileron pig tail came loose from the reciever inflight. I flew around for 5 minutes and I was doing hard rolls and snaps when I lost aileron function and it went into a constant left bank. I tried the elevator and it worked but I was too low and went into a spirlling figure 9. It is beyond repair. The good news is the electronis work!!!! The cowl is crushed! The fuse looks like someone jumped up and down on it. The aluminum Hacker MM is twisted beyond any repair. It even pushed through the firewall. The GB and canopy are ruined and the wing is broken. It is back to cheap planes for me for a while. I bought a Racer .25 from a friend at a swap meet for ($5.00) five dollars and have put the electronics in there!

Best crash ever!.
I wanted to thin down my fleet, but not this way!! I have seven flyable planes and my lady thinks thats too many! Most people at the FF say seven is nothing.

RE: Funtana Conversion Battery Question
Hi, guy's. Just found this thread. I too am converting a funtana .40. Although i am doing it a little diffrently. I am doing a light weight 3D ship.
I first did it with a 1615/4 mega motor(speed 400 size) on 5s. I had a 14x7 prop on there and it flew fine but it only had enough power to hover. No pull out. Vertical was not the best either. AUW was 4 lb's.
The new set up is a 1625/4 mega motor(speed 480 size) on 6s in a custom built gearbox. It will be swinging a 16x10 to start. Not sure on the rpm yet. It should be a little over 4 lb's. Here is a few pic's of the gearbox i made. I will post some more pic of the plane a little later.
How do you post pic????
DK

DK,
I would be interested to hear a little more about your conversion. I would be interested to know how you are going to get to around 4lbs AUW. I am looking for options to reduce the weight of mine that is currently around 6lbs 14oz if I remember correctly.

RE: Funtana Conversion Battery Question
Here is the setup that i had in it the first time.
Mega 1615/4 turn.....................2.7 oz
Cobri gearbox..........................1 oz
5s Apogee 2170 pack................8.5
Electron 6 RX........................... .06 oz
4 hs-81................................... .06 oz?
Plane was 62 oz AUW and had about 65 oz of thrust at 240 watt's. Like i said, it hoverd but there was really no pull out.
The new motor i have coming is better at high voltage's. It's still only 4 oz's. The gearbox is 1 oz. I will gain a couple of ounce's with the 6s tp 2100's. I am trying to get rid of the hs-81. I dont like them or trust them. I know i will add about 4 oz by going to the fut 3004 servo but i think it's worth it. So after all said and done i should still be under 4.5 lb's(68 oz's) and have about 80 oz of thrust. Not the best but it should be enough to feel comfortable in tail touch's and have unlimted vertical.
