Hey Al,

It is hard to believe that the thread has a life of it's own! If you fly a Transall, you can fly anything!!!

Wishing you all the BEST in 2008!!!!

Default RE: Transall C-160

Well to start out with, I am new to this forum, and I also brought a Transall C-160 (White ver.) from a guy by the name of Larry off of EBay (12/7/2006), (paid maybe $150.00). I have decided to finally start putting it together.

I have so far put the hoz. Stab, (slide thru stab.) and Ver. Fin. On, Decals on, I remade my own rear landing gear, put the foam wheels on,(remade new wire for the rear landing gear) put the servo’s in the wing and fuse, did the front landing/steering gear, used fiberglass and epoxy on all of the formers that are in the fuse to make them a little stronger.

I have put on it also, (2) medium motor mounts, (2) 35-36-1200kv Great Planes RimFire Brushless Motors, (2) 10 X 5E Props, and brought a new FlightPower V-Balancer w/harness.

I still have to get, (10) Great Planes 2†Rubber Tires to replace the foam tires, (2) 2 ¾â€Dubro Spinners, (2) Woodworks LiPo Sack’s, (1) RC Electronics Blue Watt Meter, (1) Futaba R168 8 Ch. Rec., (2) E-Flite 60A Brushless ESC’s, (1) Great Planes Electrifly Triton 2 DC Charger, and (2) FlightPower LiPo 11.1 Volt 3700 mAh 25C EVO25 3S Balance Batteries.

These are the things that I found while reading all 29 pages for this forum.

Bad:
a. Wing Incidence off,
b. Poly Quest Hi-Po batteries 4000 up to 4400 mAh @ 16C in parallel and Kokam,
c. Both bottom Nacelles don’t fit very good,
d. Beefing up the supports around the nose wheel and main gear area, (this needs to be done),
e. Flaps or flaperons ?.

CG: (back from the leading edge):
a. 65 to 85 mm,
b. 2 9/16 inches back from the leading edge.

Motors:
a. Mega 22/30/3,
b. AXI 2820/10,
c. Dualsky motors,
d. AXI 2814/10’s.

Props: APC 9 X 6E up to 11 X 5.5E.
a. (9 X 6E giving about 30amp, total 60amps X 15V average, for watt reading of 900W (ingoing),
b. APC 10 X 5E drawing 29 amps @ full throttle, (both ESC’s and feed into a “Y†then into the throttle input on the receiver – positive wire removed – using a separate battery for the receiver and servo’s).

ESC’s:
a. Phoenix 45-60 ESC’s,
b. Jeti 70 opto plus, (programmed to high voltage shut off, hard timing, soft stop),
c. Jeti 40’s,
d. Castle Creations 35 amp.

Batteries:
a. Kontronik / 1300 kv Medusa 36 series,
b. 4400 mAh (in parallel),
c. 6000 mAh batteries,
d. 11.1v 3SP’s 4000 mAh 10C LiPo’s brand name Perfect Balance @ $69.95,
e. (2) parallel 4S Evo 3700 mAh packs,
f. Kokam 3C2P 4000 mAh packs, (wired in parallel for 8000 mAh).

Weights: 8 lbs, 4 oz. to 8 lbs, 14oz.

Flying Time: 9 min. to 9 min. 17 sec.

If any of you have any input that you feel I should know, please let me know.

Thank you,
Leonard Jr.

Hi,

As you have seen, many different combo's yet the plane flies. It needs to fly fairly fast, and lands a bit hot (hold the flare!), but I still enjoy mine.

Regards,

Edd

It is so funny to read these posts!!!!!
I bought one, built it and considering I do not have enough experienced, I prefered to give the maiden privilege to another fellow with many years of experience... first attempt crash!... then I fixed it, reinforced it, maybe a bit heavier now (9.4pounds ji ji), second try... it took off and as soon as the test pilot (another) released a bit the elevator, it went down as a rock........ it sees still fixeable, I'll try to fix it and I might do the maiden attempt next time... I'll trim up elevator before attempting to take off based on the 2nd attempt that the plane really wanted to tip down..... I'll update...
