Default fuel lines

I am in the process of finishing a Holbbico ASAP Extra 300 and I'm putting a Magnum .75 two stroke in it. My question is this; since I side mounted the engine-it's mounted pointing towards the left when looked at from the front. I'm wondering how I'm supposed to access the fuel lines and set them up. Oh, and one more thing how do I tell if the engine is full when you have a pitts muffler? If anyone could help me out I would appreciate it a lot.

Hi,

Put one of these in the fuel supply line (the one that goes to the carburetter:-

- or similar.

And connect the overflow / muffler pressure line to the muffler. Since you have side mounted your engine, the Pitts muffler will let the fuel drip out without it filling the muffler the moment the tank is full.

I had two of those, and they started leaking and sucking in air after several flights. A buddy of mine also had one leaking recently, causing the engine to surge in mid air. I have since stopped using them.

Now I only use these foolproof fueling thingies:

Hello!
Don't use any fueladapters like Robarts and similar items..there is much better, more easy way to fix it.
Here is what you should do
You use an ordinary fueltank but instead of using 2 fuellines you use 3 : one goes to the throttle (as usual) one goes to the silencer (pressure, as usual), the third line just hangs down under the cowl and this is the fuelline that you use for filling the tank.
Now you ask: "isn't the fuel now goíng out through the carb intead of going to the fueltank when I fill the tank" -No! The opening in the carb is so small ,remember that you fuel it when the carb is at idle, that no fuel is going in that direction.

You might also ask: " When do I know when the tank is full"?
You notice it when fuel is comming from the silencer exhauststacks

Regards!

Didn't you forget to say that the third line should be plugged after you have filled the tank?

No pressure otherwise!

Hi!
Yeah! Ofcourse.
Always plug the fuel filling line when you have filled the tank!
I'm getting old......

Hi Jan,

How old are you??? I will be 58 or so in a few weeks....

For that 3rd line..... do you install a piece of tubing that goes through the stopper and into the tank, but is bent down to the bottom of the tank for fueling and emptying the tank?

I have even used a second clunk for that purpose. No, the two clunks don't get twisted around each other.

How about a "T" in the line to the carb instead of a complete 3rd line?

That's how I do it.

It works great.

A "T" is the easiest was to go but my experience has been that you pump fuel up to the carb too sometimes ( it flows into the carb as well as the tank, my helis are particularly prone to this ) I use a third line with clunk connected to a fuel dot. I have always liked fuel dots, no leak, no problem.

I too use a third line with a clunk and connected to a fuel dot on my non-pumped four strokes. On all my YS four strokes, I just use a "T" in the line to the carb because the built in regulator won't allow fuel to flood the carb while fueling.

Forget clunks, forget all of that third line plumbing. Use the Tettra bubble-less tank. Jett engineering also makes a similar line.

This tank looks like a regular plastic tank with a bladder inside it. The bladder is the same size as the outer tank and cannot be stretched. There are two lines only. The feed line goes to the inside of the bladder. The pressure line goes to the fitting on the outside of the tank and pressure is exerted inside the tank on the outside of the bladder. There is no dirty burnt fuel going into the bladder.

To fill, the bladder is sucked empty with a syringe, fuel is then pushed into the bladder. You now have a solid bubble of fuel at the pickup. Because there is no air in the bladder you will not get a lean run, or bubbles in the line, even if there is some vibration. This tank solves all of the lean run, tank position, vibration bubble and needle setting problems. Whatever the needle is set at on the ground is pretty much what you will get in the air. The engine will not surge or gurgle, at the end of the tank it will just stop.

Hi!
49
Yes I do use the Tettra "bubbleless tanks" whenever I can...still you have to have a fuelline hanging down under the engine cowl on scale models for filling up. I also have a second line hanging down which is an overflow line.

Regards!

On the Tettra tanks, if you have to suck the bladder dry with a syringe before filling, etc., doesn't it make for a lot of extra fiddling for just a sport flier?..... or not? How expensive are they?
Tettra have a website? I'm off to look. Thanks for the ideas,

Ernie
