Default engine recomendation please:

hi everybody after so many years to try floats on one plane, so i have a hobbico superstar 40 and a tower trainer 40,both planes are the same thing with different name; im not sure how much they weight, and i just purchased a great planes set of floats, its a kit, the lenghr is 34.5' inches each float, not sure about weight either, so question: super tigre 45,51 or magnum 52 blue head 4 stroke?
wich engine will perform the best?
regards.

Any of those 2 stroke engines would work fine. It really depends on if the engine runs good and is reliable, not flaky or tempermental.
For a 4 stroke you need to up the displacement some as the 52 four stroke would be too anemic. Years ago I used a Saito 56 on a seaplane and it definitely was under powered. The floats add a lot of drag to the plane, so you need extra power to compensate. I would go with a 4 stroke of around 70 size in displacement if you go that route.

Super Tigre 45, Magnum 46, Magnum 52 two stroke, Magnum 70 4s engines. I have (2) of the Mag 46's and they run great. The 52 two stoke was a little bit more finicky at first but has gobs of power. I love my Magnum 4s engines. Super easy to tune and run smooth as can be.

If you want a cruiser, the Super Tigre 45 or Mag 46. Vertical climbs the Mag 52. All around flyer with good power, the Mag 70fs.

Buzz.

The Magnum 4 strokes are great, several friends have the 70's and they are as powerful as the OS 70's (I have two of those). You will not be disappointed. ( BTW You might want to come to our Fun Fly at Farragut Park on July 15-16-17. Some of the Lewiston guys are coming.)
