Default ABC engine question

HI all , i have a Royal engine .46 ABC Signature series
no probs to report , running good, but I'm curious to understand
what the little slot on piston is for, looks like a slot for a piston ring in a way, but engine is clearly ABC. Could this slot be for
helping the piston/liner retain oil-lubrication , possibly?

Default ABC engine question

Yep, that's an oil groove...there's a few ABC engines that use that system.
