Default The carb

I am going to try this carb out tomorrow on a Snorer .55 for a friend in Fla. It's certainly different. It fits the Snorer perfectly.

It should work fine. A bit unusual but nothing to worry about as it works. The only real issue was you couldn't put your finger over the intake to choke the engine. But you can block off the exhaust outlet on the muffler instead to choke it. If I remember it didn't do well, at the time it was made, due to most people weren't using mufflers yet. Thus choking the engine to start it was a problem with no muffler. But it also was a aftermarket item and people had a tendency to not want to get one even if it was better.

Thanks Jim and Earl, so far no one has known the brand name so we're just calling it The Carb. I think the Snorer is the only engine I have that it will fit. The large screw is the midrange/low speed adjustment, at first I thought it was just a cap. I'll check one of my Webra .91's on the outside chance it would fit them.

I have the article and review on the carb in a magazine from the day. It would take a week of research to find it. I can't remember the name off the top of my head. www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?2669356-Variable-Venturi-Carb this is from the other forum. https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...0&d=1393635641

QUOTE=dmrcflyr2;37915741]Cool! I can't wait to hear the results.[/QUOTE]

This using about 16 OZ of fuel several setting up the carb, the stock carb was already set up but I richened up both needles to sort of start over.

Snorer .55 made in Argentina

Stock muffler with Mac's Quiet tuned pipe attached for whisper quiet. It does not effect performance in any way.

Glow plug====Taipan 2c standard.

Prop=======Bolly 11.5x6 one of two recommended sizes

The Carb max rpm=====9,390
Stock Carb max rpm===9,402
Idle with both==smooth steady 2,100, no burbling and no wandering up and down.

A pleasant and fun thing to do. I made an adapter to try it on a Fox 60 and 74. Too hot and too humid for me today.

Those are the kind you need under cowls. Nothing fancy.

I just ran the Carb on a Fox 60 using a bolly 12.5x6, it turns the 12.5x6 about 2,000 rpm faster than the Snorer turned the 11.5x6
Fox Eagle .60 with Fox Quiet muffler
Fuel===Wildcat 10% with 18% full synthetic
Plug===Fox idle bar
Prop==Bolly Clubman 12.5x6
Max rpm with the carb===11,350
Max rpm with Fox EZ Just =11,340
Both carburetors were smooth and burble free with clean mid ranges, sub 2,000 rpm idle was easy to attain with both.

All in all it's a good carb, now I have to send it back and break in a new OS .62V,

Hobbsy, ever try a Heli Carb on a plane engine ??

another question here, well I don't wish to sound stupid here, but I guess I will have to, this Carb in your photos, it's kind-of hard to see, but is that Slot on the top. is that all there is to allow air into the engine ??

I'll provide a better picture, the whole left side of the carb is open in the front/left, the slot you see is a screw driver slot, that big disc is the midrange adustment. It's really simple.

If the air comes in the front, how does the fuel get from the main needle? I assumed the air came in the front and then past the main needle and that more fuel comes in somewhere else for midrange and idle.

Thanks Hugh, the fuel flows into the air stream from a slot in the post you see protruding from the lower end. The plunger exposes more and less of the slot as it moves up and down. The threaded cap is screwed up or down to adjust the mid range.
