Magnum .46
I am considering using the Mag .46 for pylon racing as a
replacement for the OS .46fx. Basicaly I want an engine
the will spin the you know what out of something like a 10x8
prop. Also want a front needle valve. This rear needle valve thing
creates too many problems. From the published specs on the Tower
site it looks like the "practical" rpm range is a little higher for the Magnum
then the rest.
The engine must also shut off from the transmitter and start within a designated
time frame which seems to eliminate some of the other brands.
Anyone out there running both the .46 fx and the Mag .46 that can comment on
the torque and rpm differances between the two ?.
Thanks
Roger

RE: Magnum .46
I'm running a 46fx and a couple of magnum 40xls's. My 46fx is about 2 1/2 years old and the 40's are nearly new. I recently switched engines to use the 46 elsewhere and could not tell the difference between the 46fx and the 40xls (no tach available at the time).
Keep in mind the variables.. older 46 and spankin new 40. Same plane, fuel, muffler and weather conditions.
Starting the xls was as easy as the fx (with chicken stick).
That's about as close as I've gotten to a direct comparison. Hope this helps.

Roger:
I have an OS 46 FX in a Magic, and several Magnum 40 and 46 engines in other planes.
No "Scientific" comparison, butto me the XLS 40 seems to match the OS 46 FX, and the Magnum XLS 46 is a stronger engine. And less expensive to boot.
Bill.

My magnum 40xl with a 12x 4 prop will take off my Magic 300, hover it at 30ft, then pull out of the hover and turn it in to a spec in the sky.
The Magic has five standar servos, battery pack and receiver. The 40xl has no special porting or special pipe.
