Default It Blowed Up Again!

What are the most common reasons for burning up engines. My TT Pro 70 has been running lean even with the needle valve on 4 to 5 turns. It blew again. I should have checked the entire thing over but oh well. It took ages to tune and it changed from day to day. Is it possible the needle valve is shot or may it be the entire carb? If I were to replace the engine in a Raptor 60, what would be a good replacement?

"It blowed up again" Sounds to me like it has happened before. Did it run lean on the test stand or only in the plane? Was it really lean or just overheating?
If you have a problem like you had and aren't willing to take the time to fix it; I don't think I can recommend any engine. If the engine is running lean something is wrong and NEEDS to be fixed before continuing. A small piece of O-ring, a fuel contaminant, a piece if grit could have made it's way to your needle valve seat. The easy solution is clear it. Your tank may be mounted too low. Easy solution raise the tank or use a pump. Air leaks, plugged lines, there are all sorts of possibilities. The fuel system is small and simple compared to most internal combustion engines and only takes a little attention to maintain.
Try a Tower Hobbies .75. They are cheap, powerful, and if you are not going to fix the problems as they develop you lose less.

Try and return the engine to Thunder Tiger first to see if they will repair it for free as it should still be under warranty or damn close to it. They are very good when it comes to resolving these types of issues in the cutomer's favor.

If you have no success with getting TT to repair the engine then there are other choices for your Raptor 60. I fly an OS 61SX-H WC in my R60 - plenty of power for 3D or the OS 70SZ-H should have even more. YS 61 or 80 will work nicely but I think you'll need to change fans.

BTW - A Tower 75 will not work in this application as we are talking Helis engines - not fixed wing engines.

Hi!
Running too lean!
You have to learn listening to how the engine sounds...and set the highspeed needle accordingly?

Regards!

If you have a problem with constant lean runs, get a temp sensor from heliproz and put it on. That will at least give you an idea of where you are. Sounds like you had some stuff in the needle seat as stated and were not getting a good mix. Not good. Shouldn't be burning them up. How old is the engine?
