Default Breaking in an OS 25FX

Hi all,
Santa Claus (disguised as the Fed-Ex man) delivered a shiny new O.S. 25fx motor to my house on christmas eve. I read through the user's manual, and the break-in routine seemed fairly simple (probably deceptively so) -- mount the engine in the airplane, set your needle at some default setting, and crank it up. Run for one minute in four-cycle mode, then alternate 4 and 2 cycling for 10 seconds each until you run the tank dry. At that point they say just set it rich but 2-cycling, and fly her 3 or 4 flights before starting to gradually lean it out over the next 10 or 15 flights.

Is it really that simple or are there any gotcha's associated with this engine?

thanks!

worked on mine, That's the great thing about OS FX engines, They almost fly out of there box. After the ground break in just keep it rich and be carful for dead sticks when flying it rich for 3-4 tanks then start leaning it up a little at a time and before you know it you will have a great running engine.

Rick,

The OS manual is WRONG.

This has been stated numerous times within this forum and also by "Mr. OS", Bill Baxter himself.
This is what the importer of OS had to say about their own manual.

You can also find information about it in these links:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_13...tm.htm#1304662
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_13...tm.htm#1309351

and especially here:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_70.../tm.htm#704159

Doing it as the manual says may cause the engine harm.

If still in doubt, write to Bill Baxter, or look for more information here: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/forumid_133/tt.htm .

Dar is correct. I'm glad we caught you before you used the manual's INCORRECT procedure. In addition to Dar's links here's one from OS's FAQ.

Oi, I'm glad I asked! I'm still a little uncertain as to what the correct break-in procedure entails, though. What I'm sure I WON'T do, though, is run it slobbery-4stroke-rich for any longer than I can avoid.

Rick,

I don't blame you for being confused. This is a weird thing that OS caused. Ticks me off because I broke in my 46FX like the manual said. Even though it seems to run fine, I wish I had known about all this BEFORE I broke it in the wrong way. At least you went online and asked right away. Smart.

I guess some of us get lucky, I did'nt run it too slobbery rich but mine broke in and runs like a champ, Glad you guys cleared the air on this matter.
