OS engines are made by a Japanese company. To my knowledge they have never manufactured any engines in the US. I don't know if their engines are all made in Japan or if some if not all are now made elsewhere in the Orient.

In this coutry, Great Planes / Hobbico / etc, are the distributors and handle the warrantee work so it may lead you to beleive they are the manufacturers? Before Great Planes, World Engines in Ohio were the US distributors but that was some years ago.

Enjoy,

Jim

O.S. is Japanese. They've never as far as I'm aware of ever put their name on anything manufactured outside their own factory walls. Cherish that .61 SF - it's one of their finest offerings. The one I have is an outstanding engine, a real great runner. They IMO used to be absolute top dog, but the competition's caught up with them, and a few manufacturers doubtlessly offer equal or better product for less $

pick one, In two strokes take a look at the Magnum engines, They even look the same as the OS FX and run just as strong with a great warrenty.

The OS 61 SF is a better engine than the newer FX or LA Engines and a lot better than any of the OS "wanna be's" Chinese Clones. Whats more if you take your time you can pick up like new ones for the same or less money than the Chinese Clones.

Who has caught up? With the growth in companies utilising very high end precision machining equipment, there are more companies offering higher quality RC engines than ever before. The capitalist market being what it is, the big distributors (and we know who they are) try to pricepoint the products as close to the Japanese benchmark companies (and we know who they are too) as they can get away with. IMO it was very telling that Super Tiger moved production to China. It's got to be very difficult competing with the likes of the Chinese companies like GMS and Magnum, and of course Thunder Tiger in Taiwan. The East Bloc companies are starting to come on strong too - MVVS (Czech) and MDS (Russian) are noteworthy examples of engine lines that continue to improve... Me I've got a mixed bag of engines having tried a little of everything. Relatively recently I bought a few Irvines direct from JustEngines in the UK when the exchange was favourable - very impressive engines, easily on par with O.S. IMO. Lots of choices out there... and better machine tools and quality control makes for more consistent quality than in years past. Look at Thunder Tiger with their ISO 9000 certification - you don't hear of too many people complaining about their engines here in the forums... Want a good deal - Hobby People is selling their Magnum .46 right now for $69.99. Tower has their "Tower Hobbies" (apparently it's GMS) .46 for $79.99 and the GMS .47 for $74.99. Tower is currently listing the O.S. .46 FX for $109.99 and the new AX for $114.99 - you really pay a serious premium for the O.S. name. Same goes for Webra - you want German/Austrian quality, you're going to pay for it! I just bought another O.S. - my personal life experience is that you usually get what you pay for. I am willing to pay a little more for O.S. quality. Whether that quality is perceived or real is the question - I'm not so sure anymore myself. Hope this helps, and sorry for the length!

O S IS the most popular engine . most of the engine threads and engine for sale threads are O S , ALMOST every other one.
its a good product, gotta be.

FOX engines are very high QUALITY , BUT expensive

quality costs , there is no getting away from it

Happy new year

Dude,

Fox engines are not "very high QUALITY". Also (just in case) Sony is made in Japan, Ford is US. And don't even hint a WWII veteran that you think the Zero fighter was made in America.
