YS 1.10FZ Info
Is an APC 17x6 too much prop for the 1.10FZ? Also, I have read some posts and most people seem to be buying these from central hobbies. Is this truly the best location for price($323.87) and service?
I am looking to put this on a U CAN DO 3D 60 and the manual suggests a prop no more then 6 pitch, any other prop suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks

The 110 seems to want to run around 8900 - 9200 rpm ( i read somewhere that this is the right rev range for the engine). I clock 8900 with a 16x8 and 20% nitro.
Best price on this engine I've found is from Singapore Hobbies, great service as well.

I have mine fitted in a Vector Flight 540 Edge and its a perfect match. In terms of maximum power, a real animal of an engine and yet as docile as you can want when needed.
One thing that strange is a buzzing / whining sound when at full throttle using a 16x4 wide blade. I thought it was some sort of resonance of the airframe on mine until I heard the same sound on a friends YS110 in an extra.
Any body else experienced this?

look at the prop tips. usually that means it is bending forward. a lot of two strokes will make that nosie with master airscrew props. does it make the same sound when you fly by as when you have it held back? if the sound isn't there when you fly by, it may simply be that prop thing or becuase the blades are wide and they are stalling when you hold it back causing it to make that noise. if it is only with that prop and not with another prop of similar load, than it has something to do with that prop.

David...we noticed that on the 1st. flight...it almost sounds like it is driving a belt drive of some kind. It is a cool sound though and I have never heard that sound on any thing but Y.S. engines. I have a 140 in the plane in the avitar and it does the same thing. The 110 is one hell of a strong motor.....many people ask "what the hell you have in there??) I really love Y.S. engines..instant throttle up..no sagging, spitting and sputtering..just raw horse power.
OOPS..! Wrong avitar[sm=bananahead.gif]

Now that I know it's not harming anything it makes a fly-past at maximum throttle, then cutting to idle when going past, sound great!
A really great engine!

The sound only seems to come when flying by at max throttle.
It makes the usual buzzing sound when held back on the ground (you, know, something like a cavitation sound) but that's a different sound from the whine.
Yes, it only seems to happen with a master airscrew. I thought originally it was the tips going supersonic, but I worked out the tip speed, and it's not revving high enough for that.

RE: YS 1.10FZ Info
Back in the old days before we knew what we were doing and there was no concern over noise we ran 11/6..11/7 Mas. props and the old Top flite props and the tips would really scream. It was when the Master Air Screws where the most high tech props you could buy. We also learned that rounding off the square ends of the MAS props would stop almost all the noise. Now we run 11/6 props on .36 motors and 13 to 14 in' props on .61's.

I just flew it again today with the Master Screw 16x4 and it whined, but when I fitted an APC 15x8 it didn't whine!
I reckon it could be the blade shape; maybe the square tips as suggested.
