Hi All,

I cannot recall how I secured my tuned pipe to the fuselage (it was 20 years ago now)?? I have looked up the MACS pipe site for some ideas but they don't have any pictures. I have included a picture below. Thanks for any help.

Dave Brown makes a nice, simple pipe mount. I've used these on many models with excellent results.

I tried one of those "zip tie" mounts....it lasted about one minute.

If all else fails....you can make one for nothing....this one has lasted
for 2 years....still going. Glue it up on the fuse where the pipe
lines up good. To remove the pipe, you have to take off the header,
the pipe comes off in one piece....

I wonder why your zip tie mount failed so quickly? I run these mounts even in belly pans were cooling isn't as good as an external mount and never had one fail. The foam pad tends to melt over time, but pulling the zip tie one more notch tightens it back up.

Don't know, John....I put one on a Sport Fly 40L a few years ago, with
an K&B .61 on it....with the pipe. After about a minute of flight the engine
was sagging a bit....so I brought her back in to readjust the carb. It was a
maiden flight on the plane, and a rebuilt motor.

When I got it in....the zip tie was already gone, and the pipe was only
holding on by the rubber joiner. I couldn't fly the plane any more that
day....and always remembered that plastic mount that failed....[X(]

Maybe it was defective....or I pulled it too tight....or whatever....but I
never tried another one....

at this stage I think I will try the cable tie with fastening block to the fuselage. The Dave Brown attachment also looks good so this will be the second choice if I can get one to fit (http://www.radiosouthrc.com/thumbnail.asp?cid=60).

As I need to make all the needle valve adjustments to my .40 before I fly there will be plenty of time to see if the cable tie type of fastening device comes loose.

If in doubt about the zip tie, check out the mount offered by Precision Aero Composites. There's no zip tie to fail and will take all of about 3 minutes to install.

Try running the cable tie through a piece of fuel line; the fuel line should help protect the tie from the heat---maybe?

Might have been the wrong kind of zip tie...

None of these ever failed, all of them are the Dave Brown mount..

It's still in the box. I'm going to attempt a repair on this one first. None of them will get much until spring arrives.

No, the engine mounting beams broke off, but other than that it's totally undamaged.

Excellant.... You know....i didn't have any luck with the zip ties
on the tuned pipe rubber joiners either. I wire them on. I will not
put an automotive hose clamp on them....

....however few, I have some standards of decency....
