OK, my OS 40 FX seems to have crapped out. I'm considering changing to another engine.
I'm mainly buying it for my Modeltech Magic Extra, I want to do 3D stuff.
I'm considering 2s over 4s, but I would appreciate any suggestions.
MY budget is around US$130, or S$220
Oh, and no one sells Irvine here. So no Irvine 53

What about a SC or Sanye XLS52. Pretty much the same engine under the name of Magnum is real popular in the US. The engine may be called a series 3 "S" 52. You may find the engine as a ASP series 3 "S" 52? The Magnum is sold by the same company that sells Model Tech in this country.
Enjoy,

SC is not sold here but Magnum is.
Yes, I've been thinking of getting a .50 engine.
OK thanks. Between the Super Tigre .51 and the Magnum, which's better?

csisfun,
Take a look at the Mecoa website. They'll take a trade in, your old worn out engine, toward the purchase of a new Mecoa .46 Tomcat. It's list price is $69, but with a trade-in, I believe you can get it for $49.
Now, to give you the low down on the Mecoa. I just bought one. After breaking it in, I put it on the nose of a 4.5.lb Spa3d. Turning a 11X4 Master Airscrew at a rich setting, I tached it just yesterday at 15,300 RPM. Now that may seem a bit high, but it's true. The 11X4 is within the rec. prop range. I think I could get better thrust with a 12X4. I had been running APC props on it, but ran out, so that's how I ended up using th M.A. I will probably put a 11X6 on it until I can get some more APC's, and then they'll be 12X4's. It will now yank my plane out of a hover like it's got a rocket attached to it.
For the money, the Mecoa can't be beat, and then again, I'm beginning to think it can't be beat regardless of the money. I'ts closest competitors are the .46FX, .46AX, TT .46 Pro, and the Magnum .46XLS. I'll put my Mecoa up against any of them and bet it will out perform each one. It truly performs like a .50 or larger. I'll stand behind the Mecoa 100% and by no other .46 until Mecoa gives me a reason to. I've owned a .46 FX, and hated I got rid of it, until I bought the Mecoa.
Check it out,
John

That's too bad. I was just sitting here thinking about what engines I have that I could trade in for some newer ones. If you ever see anyone selling a Mecoa .46, if you can, jump on it, it is well worth the money.

The Magnum XLS52 is in a 40-46 frame. It's no bigger than your OS FX 40. It has the same mounting bolt spacing and looks like a OS FX 40 except it has a round blue head. The head looks a little odd stuck on top of a squarish cylinder. The Magnum XLS 46 is a good engine too. It looks identical to the OS FX line of engines.
The MECOA 46 is a LEO 46 if you see them in the Hobby shops around where you live.
OS has the 50 SX which runs ok but is a little pricy. Then theres the new OS 46 AX with the 4 bolt head.
Enjoy,
Jim

Nope... still no Mecoa/Leo
Um... I think I'd go for a .52 than a .46...
Um... are all .40/.50 engine's mounting bolts spacing equal? Especially the GMS .47 as compared to other engines?

If you can get your hands on a new GMS .47 with the tuned muffler, that is the way to go for a 3D plane.
I own three of the GMS .47 and the one I have on my SPA3D (weighing in between 4.5 - 5 pounds) with an 11x4 APC pulls like no tomorrow. This thing will hover all day at less than 1/2 throttle and pulls vertical easy as pie.
I have another one that is on a new SPA3DT that I plan to put an APC 12x4 on. If and when the weather ever warms up so I can get it out, I expect it to pull the new SPA3DT just as well or better.
GMS makes and excellent engine in my opinion. I own a total of 5 of them from .25-.76 and I love them. For the money, you can't beat the power.

I own the Mag XLS52 and it is a screamer. Very easy to break in and tune. I have mine on a Ultimate funfly. It will fly straight up at 3/4 throttle, for as long as you want to. It is cheap and reliable. It will haul your Magic pretty good.
XLS52 should be the ticket.
