Hello all,
I am looking for the owners manual/instruction manual for the HB (Helmut Barnhardt) .40 PDP (Perry Directional Porting) engine. I checked MECOA and they only seem to have the generic HB instructions. Just wondering if anyone out there would happen to be familiar with this animal in general and possibly would have access to the manual. In particular im interested in the manufacturers recommendation for prop sizes as well as fuel. If anyone has run or does run one of these please share your experiences as well as any advice you might have.
Thanks in advance

Wie Gehts! Can't help you with the manual, but I owned two of these motors some years
ago. Great stuff. Kinda big and heavy for their displacement, but certainly no worse than
some of the bricks they're selling today.
Functionally, the motor isn't unique. It starts, runs, and adjusts just like any other ringed
r/c engine. The HB carb looks like a perry and adjusts the same as well.
Any good fuel with 5-15% nitro and a good oil package would be fine. Omega comes to mind with maybe
an extra ounce of castor tossed in for good measure.
10-6 / 11-6 props are fine, but the final choice is going to be dictated by the type of plane you
install the motor in.
These were really top quality motors, so you shouldn't have to rely much on luck, but...
Good luck with it!

sehr gut, und du?
The carb is an HB but it is adjusted like a traditional (non perry) carb, the low speed adjustment screw is found in the middle of the throttle lever (it dosen't have the disc-type low speed adjustment. and yes, it is quite heavy, but well built.
cheers

ahhhh...eine kleine krank, aber....OK
They say that the brain is the SECOND thing to go...<G>
I recall my HB carbs having an idle disk LS adjustment (ala Perry), but I
could be wrong.
I sure do remember carting that new .40PDP home from the LHS in 1981 feeling
all of 10 feet tall.
Sweetheart of a motor that was.

The earlier HB engines were delivered with genuine Perry carbs, HB later made a Perry looking carb that was a true two-needle device. It still had a black plastic body, so confusion is understandable.

I have one,new in the box that I bought several years ago out of a hobby shop. No instructions came with it. Mine has the same carb as ChuckAugers.
You might try MECOA for unique instructions if there were any.

I've still got a Scat Kat with a massaged HB 40 PDP-Blitz on it. Last raced in 1984 San Antonio. Back in those days Q500 wouldn't allow Schnurle ported engines and the HB was the hot ticket in baffle piston engines.

I printed out a manual for my HB .61 PDP (black lettering) using MECOA.com. Can any one give me a clear explanation of just what PDP is? I know that Clarence Lee does PDP modifications on K&B .61s.
Thanks,
