Hey i started digging around in my plane stuff and i found an old German made H.B. .40 engine... Its missing the carb and pipe, and the output shaft is just barely bent. It takes a second to notice it... But its there! I think its been wrecked really hard.
So can i still get parts for it? Is it worth fixing? It has tons plenty of compression. Thanks!

I wouldn't recommend that. Vibration will be bad. Especially if you can see if it's bent. Get it striaghtened if you can. Or replace it.

I kind figured that the vibration would just rattle the whole thing apart too... Could i put an O.S. carb on it or something or do i absolutely have to have the stock one?

Joel....
You'll pay as much for an OS carb, as you would the CORRECT carb from MECOA.
Replace the crank as well. It's bent...it's no good...replace it.
If you cheap out on the repairs..you can only expect unsatisfactory results.

Joel...
Not to steal AJ's thunder, but when you bend, and then re-bend a piece of metal...it weakens.
Ya know...there's nothing like a prop turning 12K suddenly making a bee-line for your face.
It's up to you. Cranks are cheaper than surgeons.

No thunder here...
Its simple, if you bend a crank a bit (yes, it requires experience to know when it is a good idea and when its not - ie, too far gone) it will bend back easily and stay there, no weakness.
Come on, if you have a bend 15 or 20 thou, its not like its 45 degrees over.... bend it back and its good to go.
DOnt beleive me, I dont care. Spend your $$.
(ps I hate to have to justify anything, or state my background, etc. Just do what you want... and so will I )
