universal engine mount?
#1
I'm building a Balsa USA Stick 40, and need a little advice.
The problem is drilling the holes for the engine mount bolts. I'd like to try my ASP FS30AR or OS 25LA (they have the same bolt pattern), but I want to leave the possibility open to go to a larger engine if I find out that I need more power. Redrilling new holes seems to be difficult. Another thing is that the holes will be very close to the edge of the engine mount with these narrow engines. The gap is 32 mm, and the distance between the holes should be 36 mm. With 3 mm holes, that leaves 0.5 mm of wood between the hole and the edge of the mount. Not much...
Does anyone have experience with the universal engine mounts where you put a strap over the engine mounting flanges and bolt the strap to the engine mount? Are they reliable?
Other suggestions?
