You've gotta be kidding? What does sound quality have to do with power, reliability, price, service, and longevity?

Hello; I agree that sound is very important to the experience of flying, do you want the crackle of a Triumph, the rumble of a Harley, the wail of the Ducati.
A fellow with a new Saito 40 in his Freedom 20 commented on the sound of the new engine. I had to admit, it sounded real good.
There are a number of (nearly) deaf, older pilots who are handicapped by their condition, they can't hear if their engine dies.
By copying a photograph of an Italian racer, and building to that photo, I built a great exhaust system for a Ducati 450 desmo, that was a peak sound for me. The memory of that sound echoing off the mountain tops, wow. I'd like my airplanes to sound like that.

The larger the engine, the better the sound, in my opinion anyway. I've got a couple of Saito .91's and a Saito 1.00. They all sound pretty much alike. I also have an O.S. 1.20 Surpass, non-pumped, which sounds awesome. I don't know if it is the brand, or the size that makes such the difference, but it is by far the best sounding four banger I've got. It runs pretty darn good too! I'm pretty much a Saito nut, but my O.S. 1.20 definately sounds th best out of all my four strokes.

The Saito .56 and .65 sound great in the H9 Cub. Saito and YS each have very unique sounds. OS and Enya sound similar. Thunder Tiger seems a little louder and raspier than the OS and Enya. Of course you could use the Saito .90 flat twin and be even more unique sounding! At idle they sound like a top fuel dragster.
