OS 50 SX and Irvine 53
Howdy Chris,
justengines.com and they run 77 POUNDS not american dollars. I think there around 120$ or something.
From what I hear there awsome engines and If I were to compare the to engine I would go with the Irvine 53. They idle great, throttle response is awsome and they look awsome!

OS & Irvine
Hi there, I purchased two of these from Just Engines in the UK for about the same price as the other fellows have posted here, a little extra discount for two. If you can find some other fellows that would go in with you then you could get it for even less plus split the postage. I am using mine on a 5+lbs. Sig SE and it flys it very nicely will do vertical with an APC 12.25X3.75 prop on it. They are very quite with the muffler that comes with the engine.
Overall I rate it a very good engine, of course I don't have too many hours on it yet, probably 10-15 hours total.

Yes, I started with that prop and it flew fine but wouldn't hold a hover. I changed to the APC 12.25X3.75 and it will now hold a hover although I'm not good enough to torque roll it. I really haven't tried any other props. I can't remember what it was turning either with the 12.25 but it was over 11,000 with Wildcat 10% after I had about 3 or 4 hours on it. I'm not very demanding or precise so I just do what works "sort of"

Make no doubt!
I have only seen 2 OS 50SX in the short time they have hit the market and there is no doubts I would take it over a Irvine 53. I have not run into one RC Flyer who even knows the Irvine 53 exist other than Internet Flyers. I was totally impressed with the SX. I have a ENYA 50CX, Webra 50 Speed, and the MVVS 49 and all are pretty fair engines, however I will soon have a 50SX for my GP Ultimate Bipe 40.

I wouldn't discount an internet flyer. If Paul Swany says that the Irvine is a great engine then I will take his word for it. How much is the os 50 like $220 or something?

Irvine 53..
Well, I've never seen an OS 50 in person other than the 50FSR of old.
But I have an Irvine 53. And it has an Ultrathrust muffler. This combo costs just about what an OS50 with stock muffler costs.
And from the RPM's posted by "internet fliers" with OS 50's, wanna guess which one is more powerful??
Wanna guess which one is more powerful even with the stock mufflers??
Wanna guess what I would buy tomorrow if I needed a 50 sized engine??
I've bought 4 Irvine 53's from Just Engines, and really haven't even considered the OS 50.

Irvine 53 - YES!!
I've got about a gallon through mine in my SE. Great engine. I got mine from Just Engines. Nice people to deal with. Came out at $100 and change, including shipping.
Quiet, super smooth transition due to a really nice carb, powerful, absolutley reliable (no deadsticks to date). Idle is slow and very smooth. Easy starting. Did I mention the fantastic transition? It doesn't faulter or lean out while vertical or inverted.
And less money than the OS.
Will I be getting another for my next .40 size plane? You betcha!

Plus the US dollar is in the toilet against the European currencies. With all the Enron and Worldcomm financial scandals, nobody over there would touch the dollar with a 3 meter pole.
When I first started buying from Paul at Just Engines, the US$ was 1:1.4 against the British Pound, now it's down to 1:1.54 and still going down. I really would like to buy a couple more engines from him, but I might wait a little while for the dollar to bounce back a little.
As for O.S. 50 vs. Irvine 53 - unless you just like to be the one at the field with the most expensive engine in its class (and I suppose that distinction is worth $50 to some folks), I wouldn't bother with the O.S. The Irvine is pretty to look at, very powerful, easy to run, and happily sips 5% or FAI fuel. I wouldn't part with mine for $100. Well, $125... maybe.
The only other engine I would even consider buying in this general category (.40-.53), particularly if I were on a budget, is the TT Pro .46, which is less powerful but substantially cheaper at $69.

Price Increase
Yes there has been an increase.
Several months ago, when I bought mine they where 71.99 GBP(Pounds Sterling) and the exchange rate was around 1.42 . Or about $100 delivered in the US.
Today the price is 75.99 GBP, effective last month, and the exchange is up to 1.53. So now the price should be about $113.
Remeber to subtract the taxes we don't have to pay (multiply the price by .851), add the shipping (approx. 9.00), then run the conversion to dollars.
((75.99 X .851) + 9.00) X 1.53 = price in dollars
Still worth it by a long ways over the OS .50SX.

OS 50 SX and Irvine 53
Hold on to your price quotes fellas'
I just got my Irvine 53 today, the total including shipping was 107.50. It took only 5 days to get here. This is a nice looking engine, all red with machined aluminum head. Very nice people to deal with at just engines. I bought this for a aces1 profile edge, but I think i'm going to put it on my pizazz until the edge is completed. I'll sure let everyone know how it goes. I read all the post on this engine and that was the deciding factor over the os 50........Dave

Irvine .53
I had only bench run my Irvine .53 until today, I put it on my RCM 40 trainer, it fit the mount holes exactly where I'd had a Saito .40. This is without a doubt one of the quietest and smoothest engines around. I had only run it about 20 minutes on the bench, so as the went on you could just hear it becomming more and more responsive. I ran it on Fox 5% nitro 50/50 lube and a Fox Gold post plug, the prop is a three blade 12x6. Please don't laugh about my choice of a plane, the RCM is a great flying plane. It was $101.00 last fall from JE's

What about Rossi
After reading through these posts, I checked out justengines and couldn't help looking at their line of Rossi's. I remember Rossi's as great engines years ago. I know they are more expensive that the Irvine or the OS, but boy, a 45 with 2.1 HP at 16,000 rpm? Wow! At ~$180 USD, it is still much less than competing 4-strokes. I know it is a screamer and not a torquer, but the lure of all that power in a 40-size package may be too much for me to resist for my Sig SE. Does anyone have any experience with this engine?

I run the Rossi 45 2000 (rear exhaust) in a Morris Fun Design. I bought the engine & plane from Morris. I like the engine. It turns a 11x6 APC prop at 13,000 rpm (same as my OS 46FX) however I now run a 12x4 APC. The engine came with Rossi R4 plug which didn't work at top end. Replaced with OS #8. Engine now has at least a hundred or more runs. It is loud, muffler is baffless. I run 10% Cool Power and I installed the extra head shim that came with the engine (recommendation from RCO Experts) however I couldn't notice any performance change. I payed $99.00 for this engine (same as my MVVS 49 from Morris). I see these 2 engines are $140.00 from Morris.
