Default K&B Engine expert needed!

I just bought a K&B .65 Sportster on ebay without a muffler. I’m currently looking at a K&B muffler that says:

(directly from ebay)
“New, perfect condition, K&B .61 muffler. Aluminum construction, expansion-type design for maximum muffling. New, never used or bolted on an engine. Includes pressure tap. Fits K&B .61 & .40 and H&B .61 & .40 engines, also may fit others. This item guaranteed as described!
This muffler is super light weight! It weighs only 3.2 onces, this is 25% lighter than the same size HB muffler.
This muffler may also fit the following engines: HP .61 & .40, Webra .61, Tower .46, some SuperTigre .60's. This list is not complete just what I can find out from asking other RC users. The rectangle exhaust opening measured at 5/16 inch X 1 3/16 inches. The distance between the mounting holes (from center of each hole) is 1 1/2 inches. “

I don't have the engine yet, so I can't measure. Would this work on the .65 Sportster? Thanks for any help.
Max

The Sportster muffler, as far as I can remember does not fit the .61. I have (2) sportsters and the muffler is two pice design, where the exhaust extension is not part of the muffler body. I think if you go to mecoa.com, you can oprder a muffler the fits it.

Max:

Dru is right. The mounting centers are wider on the Sportster 65, the 61 muffler wont fit.

I have a "Slimline" "Pitts" muffler with the mounting holes at 1.85" center to center, I think I got it for a Sportster but I';n not sure. Never used it.

After you get the engine and check the distance, or someone who still has a Sportster can verify, we can work a deal on this one if it's right.

The mounting dim's on the 65 sportster is 1.5 inches. I thought I read that it is the same as the 61 however I don't have the 61 to check.

Smedsky:

I have a bunch of the 61s to check, they are 1.5 inches mounting. Could have sworn the 65 was wider on the Sportster.

So, Max, it looks like the 61 muffler will fit.

I must have a different .61???? The muffler did not fit on my sportster, it was a 1/8 inch to narrow???? I know my .61 is about 15 years or soo older then the sportsters. I did get the .61 used so it may not be a stock muffler, hard to remember that far back.

Well you now know what muffler to get and us.

Dru:

I am still remembering the Sportster 65 having a wider mount than the 61, but if Smedsky's measurement is correct then my memory is telling me a lie.

I have a small K&B rc airplane engine. There is no size stamped on it. I suspect it is an .18 .20..28 It has a round head not square. Simply says Made in USA. On the edge of the mounting flange is what appears to be a casting number A3920
How can I tell the actual size of this engine?
Appreciate any help.

Have a K&B 40 size and need a needle valve. the one that is near the fuel intake port. Motor runs fine but leaks gas from that opening. Not sure if it is the high speed or low speed. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hey, MECOA who makes the K&B and still sells parts will know the answer. They have a forum for just such questions. Send a message, tag the forum or give them a telephone call. I am sure they have the correct answer! That would be: www.mecoa.com

Cheers,

Chip
