Hi guys,
Just back from the field. I've got a almost new ASP .46 that is mounted inverted in a GP Venus. I should also mention that I have a 3 line tank set-up so I can fill the tank with a fuel dot. I got the engine running on the ground and took off (maiden flight), but as soon as I got some altitude the engine started sputtering.[X(] I managed to bring it down and then played with the engine some more on the ground. When I went full throttle with the engine then picked up the plane and tilted it so the nose was pointing up, the engine started sputtering then quit. It also did this, but not as bad when I tilted the plane to the left or right. I messed with both the high and low speed needle valves to no avail. I didn't want to risk taking it up again with the engine like this. How can I remedy this?
Also, with regards to the 3 line tank, I notice when I pull the fuel dot off to fill, gas starts flowing out so I have to quickly pinch it off. Is this normal? Also, when the engine is stopped I notice fuel dripping from the carb and the only way to stop it is by closing the barrel on the carb all the way and sometimes even turning the needle valve closed. Is this normal with inverted engines as well? I think it might have something to do with the fuel tank being a little too high for the crab, but I don't have much room to drop it. You guys have any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.

Check & see if there are any bubbles in the fuel line to the carb when you hold the nose up. If there is , then there is a problem in pickup line. Double check your line routing & make sure you have the correct line going where it should, ie. clunk line going to the carb & muffler pressure connected to the correct line. It is not normal for fuel leak out of the carb, engine inverted or not. I have a Zen 50 with a Jett FIRE 50 that is mounted inverted & no leaks. My carb is actually below the fuel tank center line with the engine inverted and still no leaks. If I pull the line off the remote needle going to the fuel tank & let it hang down below the fuel level in the tank, then it will siphon out. But connect it back & it can't force out the carb. Sounds like there maybe pressure in your tank, check any check valves if used. I did have some trouble getting my mixture correct at first, it was too lean high & low. I found I had to open the high needle 4 turns more & the low 1/8" out from factory. My engine ran fine on the bench mounted upright with factory settings of 3 on the high and flush on the low. I had to adjust both needles each time to get into the ballpark before it started to make since. It took me several hours to get mine lined out today and I'll confirm at the field tomorrow. Good luck.
