Default ??? On APC Props

Need to get a 17" APC prop for my Saito 180 on my Chip Hyde Cap-X... I was looking at the APC site and they have a 17x4 3D fun Fly, they also have a 17x8N Pattern or a 17X6...I was told my a few experienced pilots to go with this "new" 17x8 prop, but what about this 17x4? What is the difference, is there any reason to choose one over another? I think what I am asking is for a little edgumakatin on prop sizes...

Would the 17x4 be enough prop for the 180? I've ran Zinger's 16x8 woods cut down to 14&6/16ths., on my YS110FZ. Tomorrow I'm going to use an APC 16X8.

I assume that the 17-4 Fun Fly is a 17-4W. If so it would be the equivilant of a 17-6, which would work fine. The 16-8 and 17-6 are the recommended props from people I have heard from in these forums. I used a 18-6W to break in my Saito 180 and I could only get about 8500 RPM out of it at 2 3/4 turns. I'm pretty sure it was too much prop but I didn't really know it at the time I bought it.

What prop are you running now and what RPM's are you getting for peak? Also how many turns out are you on the high needle?

Hi!
I would say that the APC 17x4 would be too small (too high rpm).A 17x8 would be perfect if you intend to fly aerobatics. Even a 17x6 might work good too

I ran the APC 16x8 on my YS110FZ today and with 10% it spun it at 8K. This was at a rich flying needle set. I'm going to go down to the APC 16x6 sport. That should be the ticket for my application.

Hi!
A 16x6 is way too small for a SAITO 180...that prop size is for 20cc (1.20) four strokes ..or maybe YS 110 engines.A 16x8 or preferable a 17x8 or 17x8N APC prop is a good choice for most scale aerobatic models.
