The pull-start on my ASP .12 is slipping quite a bit. This is rather annoying as the engine isn't that old and has been looked after, yet the p/start isn't covered by warranty.
So, has anyone any ideas on what this could be? Would it be the one-way bearing or whatever it's called? Is there any way of improving the situation without removing the pull start assembly (only it's bolted to the bottom of a boat and I can't get to the p/start screws without completely dismantling the engine mount).
many thanks people.

I'm afraid you'll have to pull the engine and pull the starter assembly to get at the one way bearing. Take out the bearing and soak it in a solvent. It is probably gummed up preventing the rollers from grabbing the shaft.
Be sure to put it back in in the right direction otherwise iot won't work at all.

So it's most likely a case of something gummed up, rather than something worn out then?
Thanks for the help.
