Default mousse can tuned pipe question

For Kraut's mousse can pipe on the spadtothebone website, he is using a 1" O.D. thin walled aluminum tube. Where would I find aluminum tubing like this? I really want to build a mousse can pipe for my Thunder Tiger .25GP using this method. Thanks.

James:

Go to your local home supply store. Or when your wife is not looking cut a chunk out of her lawn chair.

James, you can also get it from Mac's Products. They charge an arm and a leg for it though. Look in the phone book for metal supply houses. We have one around here that sells nice aluminum tubing cheaply. It is not quite as thinwalled as the Mac's stuff though but will work nicely and comes in all sizes.

Usually 1" header pipe is used on 46 size engines, and 3/4" on the 25 - 32 size I think though....

Do you have a link to that SPAD site you mentioned? I would like to see the mousse can info there.

The website is www.spadtothebone.com. I think it's under the plans section, but you may have to hunt for it cause they recently changed the site around. I measured the inside of the front portion of the muffler and it's 7/8" in diameter. I found some 3/4" outside diameter aluminum tube, but the walls of it are kind of thick. Will this matter? Will it be too heavy? Should I use 3/4" outside diameter tubing for the 7/8" inside diameter of the muffler?

We need to see the method you wish to use. There are a few different ways of making a mousse can pipe. Perhaps your method involves using the front part of a standard muffler, and making the rear have into a mousse can....? It would help if you could send us a link directly to that page.
