Default Engine cleaning, got dirt in from crashing

Yesterday, I augered in with my Nexstar and got dirt in the engine. How do I clean it, what do I clean it with? How do I take the engine off the mount? The needle valve is in the way of the engine mount screw, and I can't get my screwdriver to the screw that holds the needle valve on.[sm=confused.gif]

Generally you don't get that much dirt in the engine. DON"T turn it over. Take the back plate off, the carberator out, and the head off. Flush every thing with fuel, reassemble and press on. If you think the engine has more dirt in it than can be handled in this manner then you need to completely disassemble it and clean with soap and water, rinse in alcohol to remove all the water, oil and reassemble.

As to getting the engine bolts off, if you remove the muffler, and take out the 3 screws not by the needle valve, you'll be able to twist the engine for access to the last screw, or take out one of the needle valve screws and twist that. ( just dissassembled my dads wrecked nextar) Then I took off the head and back plate, and used a q-tip and alcohol to swab the pieces of sandy grit out of the engine (gravel bank) and put her back together.... the engine that is, not the plane It was the OS 46fxi... I assume the same one you have?

Check out this link Titled Bad Day at the Field it really helped me out the first time.

I downloaded the file and keep it on my PC just in case it should happen again. Glad to see that you have it all cleaned up already!
