Backplate on O.S. La.25 LEAKS!!!
I bought this engine this week and broke it in on the bench--ran 3 tanks perfectly... So i mount it on my trainer go to the field to fly...get it up and have 2 deadskicks...OK so i think it needs more running in....so i run the remaining amount of full in the tank - as i listening it starts going all crazy speeding up and slowing down- i notice the backplate is bubbling....WHAT is up with this? I am really disappointed with the O.S. LA series...my .15 la did the same thing - I have had to re tighten backplate screws on 2 La motors out of the box...and they Still leak..
thanks-Aaron

Dontchya know........LA stands for Lousy A**..........
Guess this is a fairly common problem with the LA series.....try some red high temp silicone on it..... Just a thought.

Aaron...The best suggestion comes from jdan..find a 25FP metal back plate. My first engine was an OS 25FS and while the back plate was good, it came with a gasket under it which failed and had the surging in flight like yours did. Bought some blank gasket material at the LHS and cut a new gasket...Problem solved..
So if you get a metal backplate, I suggest you run it with a gasket. As they say, my $.02.
