Thunder Tigre versus Magnum
Can anybody give me some authoritative comparisons on the Magnum 91 4 stroke versus the TT F915? They are both lower end of the price spectrum, but I don't read too much bad about either.
I'm looking for power for a Hangar 9 Corsair, and whilst I have a distinct preference for an RCV 90-SP, it doesn't look as though it will fit in the cowl; too long front to back.

RE: Thunder Tigre versus Magnum
The Magnum type seems more popular because it is also made as a ASP, SC, & Sanye engine. I have a Magnum 91 as well as several other sizes. I like them very well. The Magnum runs much stronger than my OS 91 Surpass I. The Magnum 91 is more of a 14-8 engine.
The Thunder Tiger is spoken favorably on here but everyone does say it is rather heavy for a 91 four stroke. Some people proclaim of the great power of the Thunder Tiger 91 four stroke. But my experience with them is that they are more of a 13-8 or 14-6 engine. They'll turn a APC 14-6 at 9000. Maybe I had a poor one?
Enjoy,
Jim

RE: Thunder Tigre versus Magnum
Just thought I would put my twopence worth in.
We (RCV) also produce an RCV91-CD engine which would fit as it is not as long as the 90SP. This engine is a much more conventional shape, however it is the same height as a 52 4-stroke rather than a 91 4-stroke (eg. Magnum 91 or TT 91). It is slightly heavier, however all the reviews and customer feedback on this engine so far has been fantastic. Coupled with a price tag of only US$229 and RCV's 2 year warranty, you may want to consider this. More information can be found on www.rcvengines.com/91cd_full.htm
Best regards

RE: Thunder Tigre versus Magnum
I have 2 of both of them.
I liked and needed the extra weight of the TT to balance a couple of planes without any extra weight. Once broken-in, the TT is a real power house. Coupled with a 14x6 APC prop, it'll hold my 4*60 vertical, looks great.
The Mag 91 idled almost perfect right out of the box, but one did flame out on me the other day causing a deadstick of my H9 Corsair. Thank God I was able to land it without too much damage.
I like them both, If you need the extra weight up front I would suggest TT. If not then maybe Mag. Or,,,, you can go with the one that's better priced. I just bought my second Mag due to the price.
Good luck.
