Does any one know what the best muffler besides stock is for a TT .46 Pro? Also what kind of RPM's did you gain if there is a better pipe?
Thanks, Lane

Get a Tower Hobbies .46 muffler stock number LXJB16. It's a mini tuned pipe. They're only $13! Should be good for a significant RPM boost. They have been out of stock for a while. Web page says they should be in stock in Late August (like, now).

- Taking out the baffle should get you between 250-500 extra rpm (free)
- Tower muffler will result in a 500-1000 rpm gain ($13)
- Mouse Can Pipe will result in a 1000+ rpm gain ($20)
- Ultrathrust or Jett Engineering mufflers will result in a 1000+ rpm gain ($50-$60)
- Tuned pipe (a la Macs) will result in a 1000+ rpm gain ($40-70)

I experimented with several exhaust configurations to satisfy my curiosity. All tests were done within a few hours using Byron's 15% with 16% synthetic oil, and a brand new OS A3 plug. The prop used for testing was a balanced APC 10x6. The numbers are from memory...I don't have my notes in front of me at the moment.
TT .46 pro
with Mac's 1140 pipe and 2590 header: over 16,000 RPM
(header cut to 3 1/2")
with Mac's one-piece muffler: 15,200
with Stock muffler (baffle removed): 14,000
I am using this engine on my own design Diamond Dust - like plane. I will most likely be using an APC 9x8 or 9x7 with the tuned pipe.
FYI, the Mac's one-piece mufflers are half the weight of the stock mufflers and very quiet.

Just remembered, I put a Tiger Shark pitts muffler on one of my TT 46 and it picked up almost 1000 rpm peak. It also sounded a bunch more menacing which is appropriate for the plane that it's on (a Mustang warbird).

Thanks for all the info. i think I will choose either the Macs or the Ultrathrust. Does anyone have actual RPM data and weights for these muff's?
thanks, Lane
