Evo 46 major help needed

Default Evo 46 major help needed

I have a evolution 46 on my arrow 40.. I have nothing but trouble from this engine.. I am kind of new to this but have a very mechanical background in everything else that runs.. Last fall I finally got so mad at this engine I almost quit the hobby.. First off it has dead stick every time i have flown it.. (really helps with landing practice) I decided that i would not let it whip me so i got it back out and have been working with it for about 2 weeks... First time I tried to start it it started right up but would not transtion to full throttle without dying.. I found some info on here about adjusting the low speed needle to 1 and 1/5 turns out which was fine but i reved my idle up a lot so i opened it back up to aprox 1 and 3/4 turns now.. runs really good for about 20 seconds wide open or ideling or transitoning it but after that 20 seconds it slowly begins to putter out and then finally quits it will start right back and then do the same thing again.... I am running an O.S. #8 glow plug that is new and wildcat nitro in it... any adjustments i can do or any thing to look for it has really got me bummed out wanting to get back in the air but am tired of deadstick landings Please Please Help Thanks a Ton In advance love the hobby and don't want to quit

I don't have an Evo, but....you might have to remove the limiter off
the high needle to get it adjusted properly. Start at about 2 1/2 turns out
and get it running. Leave the glow on for now. Peak it all the way up
to maximum rpm, and when you get it screaming as fast as it will go,
open up the high speed needle till you hear the engine slow down a bit.

This is the slightly rich condition you want. Once you get the high speed set
you can work on the low speed.

You didn't say what size prop you are running or what nitro fuel.

If you are using an 11-5 or 11-6 2-blade prop and you still haven't messed with the limiters, I would say to open them both up all the way and start over. My first impression is that you are running too lean or you have an air leak somewhere.

On mine, any where I put the settings with the limiters on, it ran. This is on an 11-6 APC, 10% Omega fuel. I did move my needle up to the front position so after break-in, I had to remove the main limiter. I still have the low end limiter in place and I think it is rediculously easy to set the low end. That is, unless you have started messing with the settings of the limiters.

The limiters are on there to keep you from twirling the needles all over the place and getting all out of sorts. As such, they are set-up for a certain narrow range of props. It should be obvious that an extra large prop or an extra small one might need an adjustment outside the setting of the limiter. If you think there is some problem with the engine, send it back to Horizon. They can check it out and test run it.

Ok Now i got it running really good but now i am getting air bubbles like crazy and Ideas where I took the tank out today and filled a sink with water and put it under pressure and could not find a leak anywhere.. Alson replaced all of the lines it did a little better but still after about 1.5 to 2 min of wide open throttle it is running itself out of fuel ... Any more ideas on this is.. It is driving me crazy... If i can't get it fixed soon it will be for sale!!! Thanks Again!!!!

Is your tank padded, and isolated real well from the airframe? If your
tank is vibrating it will cause the fuel to "foam up", and no amount of tuning
the engine will help. If there is lots of air bubbles in the fuel line....it either
has a hole in it somewhere, or it is foaming real bad. []

My vote is for the lack of foam padding suggestion. All that vibration will definitely cause the fuel to foam after a short run and *poof* the engine will stop running. Bet that's what this is.

Also, where are the bubbles?

If they are in both lines (From the tank to Needle Valve AND NV to carb) you're probable getting fuel foaming. But if they are only from the NV to the carb, you've got an air leak at the needle valve. try tightening all of the screws and nipples at the NV.

Thanks for all of the help guys I will try the foam thing.. I took it to work today because i work at a large auto repair shop in lex.. My boss is as good of a hand at rc aircraft as i know and of course it now doesn't have any bubbles.. ran 2 tanks of fuel through it and it ran perfect the whole time.. Looks like danny will have to fly with me all the time... Have now clue what cahnged other thana the temp it has been about 35 degrees when I have been running it at home and it was about 65 in the shop today.. Danny adjusted the needle also.. I was about a half turn too rich.. I really thank you guys for your help!!!! any other suggestions will be appreciated.. I will find out for sure friday about 12:30 If it is fixed or not it is going up then.... Thanks By the way the air bubbles are comming all the way from the muffler to the tank then a few secs later i see them heading for the needle then i can watch them pass right through to the carb.. Not doing in the line from the needle to the carb now that is set a little leaner Thanks

looks like EVO is a brand that is comany prone to problems..[]
