I am considering mounting a Saito 150 inverted in a Sig quarter scale cub. This is my first attempt at installing an engine inverted and I'm open to any suggestions that others might have. My plan is to us an onboard glo system with it. Please let me know your thoughts.

Theoretically if your engine is an OS and properly tuned you can run it inverted with no problem or need for on-board glow driver.
My experience with inverted engines, although only OS, tells me that it is best to avoid placing your engine this way as much as possible. Idling and transition will not be at their best.
However, if your model does not permit other than inverted engine position -I think this is not the case with Cub- you will definitely have to sacrifice "clock" idling if not using on-board glow.

Set up properly the FA-150 will run as well inverted as upright. On board glow should not be needed.
My only question is do you really need that much power in a 1/4 scale Cub?
Bill.

Exactly - this is my question too. I have a 120 in my 1/4 scale cub and it is almost too much - I run half throttle or less even for take-off. A 150 will jerk the firewall off - they are awfully strong engines.

I have been running a Saito 150 ( with a 16x 6 ) inverted in a 1/4 scale Balsa USA Cub for the last 2 or 3 years. It flies like a dream. You can putt around as slow as you like, remember you can always throttle back. Just had my first flight on a 1/3 Druine Turbulent with a Saito 150 also inverted (classic 16 x 6) and am currently assembling a 72"Katana ARF with a Saito 150 Dual Plug with pressure pump) which is also inverted. I also run full time on board ignition on all my glo engines.

I have used a Saito 150 in the inverted position many times and constantly had problems with getting the engine to idle. In fact one of the other guys in my club was having the same problems I was having with a 180. Another member kept insisting that we both get a Perry fuel pump and that our problems would be over.
I and the guy both kept having problems until I finally got the perry pump. Guess what, Problems solved. We both now use the Perry pump, and have had absolutely no problems since. I guess we are never too old to learn. Go ahead, invert the engine (with a Perry Pump), and have a great time enjoying your airplane and the power that the Saito can produce. You will love it.
