Default K&B .40 RC ENGINE

Hey I have the chance to buy this engine for $40.
What do you all think about this engine?

Is it worth it?

BTW it is in very good condition with a muffler.

Thanks!!!

If you had searched the forum for info you would find that there are several models of K&B .40 engines. The 8011 (Arguably the least powerful and oldest model) is a reliable low powered loop-charged engine. The 4050 (the newest and most powerful) is a high powered ABC, schnurle ported engine. All the models look about the same from the outside. All those built in the last 20 years included mufflers. Depending on which model you are looking at it could be a fair to poor deal or a real steal.
Sounds like a job for an experimenter

If it has the bolt on muffler, the price is a little high but OK. If it is a strap on muffler the price is too high unless it has the perry punp in place of the back plate. With the pump it should be a great engine but I doubt if that is the one you are looking at.

It may have the model stamped on the side of the mounting beam.
8011-Perry,Irvine,K/B block carb, baffle on piston...no pump, strap muffler (ONLY BUY THE PERRY CARB MODEL)
4011-K/B block, K/B finned carb, baffled piston....no pump, bolt on muffler (ONLY BUY THE FINNED K/B CARB MODEL)
4050 or 4060-K/B finned carb, flat top piston...no pump, bolt on muffler (BUY IT AND RUN)

If it has a working perry pump, just buy the darned thing.

Mike:

Don't forget the 8330 and 8350 engines. The 8330 is a great torquer with its small bore Perry carb, the 8350 is a later version for higher rpm with a bigger carb bore. The 8360 is the Q40 version, a real screamer.

I'm mounting a pair of 8330s on my new Twinstar, the Twinstick is getting 8360 engines.

Bill.
