Default Engine Oil

Hello I am new to R/C flight. My question is about engines, and insuring the right amount of oil. My club offers fuel,to its members, at a substantial discount. It is 10 percent nitro,14 percent synthetic oil and 5 percent castrol. I am running an O.S. la 46. I am assuming that is enough oil, however I have heard of people adding oil. I was wondering if one were to add oil, what type to use. I have 2 stroke engine oil for a gasoline engine. But I didn't know what to use. What you all recomend?

Most pre-mixed fuel has an oil content of about 18%. For most 2-stroke applications this is plenty. Don't worry about adding additional oil.

19% oil will be fine. If you want to add oil it should be either Caster or one of the synthetic oils (Klotz ect)

Cheers.

Your fuel should be fine. Syn./castor blend is ideal. Down here in TX, I use Wildcat syn/castor with a total of 16% oil, 5% nitro in almost all my engines .20 -- 1.20 in summer 100*/99% humidity. I also use up to 15% nitro with 18% total oil. With smaller engines from .15 down, a little more oil makes for better operation. Smaller engines need more oil for better cooling.

adding oil to your fuel, synthetic or plain castor will not hurt it . if its excessive it will smoke more. oils meant for gasoline generally DO NOT mix well with methanol in our fuel. 18% total is the least id feel comfortable with. older type motors used to use as high as 25% but today thats not neccesary. some flyer forget that with very low % of oil as found in some commercial fuels (used to gain power since the total %of nitro&methanol goes up) that just one lean run & your motor can very well be "cooked".the syn/castor mix is used to reduce the amount of mess on the plane. for our motors castor is the best but there is the mess & it forms gum in the motor over time. using pure synthetic , designed for ALCOHOL, rust becomes a factor.

You don't have to add oil but it won't hurt. Use castor oil
