I guess you could but you need to pressurize the fuel tank first by flipping the prop a dozen times. Then prime the engine as normal. I always use a starter on my YS 63, it's easier.

Uh OH !!! Looks like I put this question on the wrong forum. Maybe a moderator would be good enough to move it to the "glow engine" forum.

I can start my YS110 by hand, I will back flip it by turning the spinner backwards. However, the first start of the day will be by electric starter. This is not to pressurise the tank. After I land I will always release the pressure so the second time starting by back flipping has nothing to do with getting the tank pressurised. I will open the throttle a little to get it started, at an idle setting it does not want to start as well.

Yes, it can be started by hand by backflipping against the compression stroke, provided that the engine is well primed.

Open the throttle fully and flip the prop six to eight times until you see fuel dripping out of the carb.

Sometimes the engine can be stubborn when trying to start it when it's cold, such as the first start of the day.

My YS .63S will pressurize its tank in a half dozen or so flips. It won't prime itself enough on its first start of the day though without intervention. I have the luxury of access to the carb mouth in this installation so once the tank is pressurized, I will turn the engine over slowly for a couple of turns with my finger over the carb to prime.

Once the engine has its first start of the day, it will just hand flip start without priming just like a small two-stroke.

OK, So let me see if I have this right. To start the YS 140 Sport by hand, prime the engine by flipping the prop eight to ten times with the throttle wide open. Reduce throttle setting to a little more open than idle. Apply power to the glow plug and flip the prop backward against compression so that it kicks over.
