Thinking about getting a groovy 50 3D, it is a small arobatic plane and ways about 5-6 pounds. I have 100 to 120 dolllars to spend on an engine. What engine would you recomend i get.

If you want to do some good 3D with the plane you will need an engine that can turn a 13x6 @ 10,000 RPM minimum. There is a lot of difference between a 5 lbs and 6 lbs plane. I think the Groovy will come out at about 6 lbs max, WM is pretty accurate when it comes to the plane's weight.
For 100-120 dollars you do not have 4C engines as an option. A TT46, OS46AX will not be an option for good 3D as they will not be able to handle a 13x6 prop and is not near your budget. You may get away with an MVVS49 or the ST G51 turning an APC 12x4, both engines are nearer to your budget. The MVVS49 is reliable but you may have some problems trying to get an extension for the high speed needle. The ST51 is a very decent engine too.

With a 100 to 120 dollars I'd go with a cheaper 60 2 cycle as light as you can get. Tiance is right no less than 10k with a 13/6 for that weight and I'd probable not be satisfied with less than 11k.

I just read the 2005 Buyer's Guide for Model Airplane News, there was a review for the Groovy 3D, reviewer says (taken with a large pinch of salt as with almost all reviews) that the plane was about 5.3 lbs only. Says would have loved a bit more power to pull out of a hover ... he used a 46AX. Maybe you can put off the purchase of the engine tillyou build the plane and loaded the electronics in. Then see what the weight will be. If its really 5.3 lbs you can go with a simple TT46 even.
