Default Need help for mods on 1.60 os

I have a Patty Wagstaff Extra 300S 1.60 size arf. I put the 1.60 on it and it just don't climb like I would like it to. I'm not really interested in full out 3d moves but I do like to climb with power. I assume I should have bought a larger engine but I am going to do anything necassary to make the 1.60 do it. I have tried several props and no real big difference. I just ordered a mejzlik 18X6 prop and a vp-30 perry pump. I don't feel that this will help me solve my problem. If there is any extreme mods that are possible to do I am willing to experiment. So if anyone has any ideas they have never tried, I will try them and let you know how it works. I have a pitts muffler. I want to stick with this muffler because of looks and smoke. The motor runs smooth and Ihave no complaints with it . I just don't have the climbing power I like. Any advice will be appreciated.

No matter what you do, the 1.60 will not be strong enough. These planes perform best with 40-50cc gassers. Mine flies well with a ZDZ40RVL. For unlimited performance a 50cc would be just the ticket. If you do decide to go gas, don't use some of the heavier types as the all-up weight will become to high.

Safe Flying!

I agree, the guys here with that plane have BME or DA 50's in them. YOu would probably have to install a Moki 2.10 or BGX in it to get whatyou want from a 2 stroke

Thanks for the advice. I would would like some specifics on the motors because this is my first year of flying and I am only familiar with most standard O.S. Engines. I have no clue about gas motors. BUt when I decide to change the engine am I going to change a lot to accept the gas or is it a farel simple change.

Thanks Vann

No glow engine will power that plane very well unless you get it to 15 pounds or less. Then the Moki 2.10 or BGX will pull it around but not with any excess pull out power in a hover. Get it to 14 pounds or less and it will be much better with the glow engine. Getting the Patty to 14 pounds or less is pretty much impossible. Get a gas engine.

Now sliding into the gas engine their are quite a few around and you need to be careful. In my opinion , the top 3 are BME, DA and Brison. I have seen them all in many different planes and styles of flying. I feel each one in the 50 size perform really well and it comes down to price which the Brison comes out the lowest-not by much but lower.

There are many other popular brands like Zenoah, ZDZ Fuji and such. I am not impressed but thats me.

Are we talking about the Great Planes 78" plane or the World Models 80" plane? When you say "1.60" it makes me think your talking about the World Models 80" plane.

If your talking about the GP then I can't help you. I don't have one.

If your talking about the World Models plane--then I can tell you that mine weighs 15.5 pounds with a G-62 on C&H ignition and a Slimeline Wrap around Pitts Smoke Muffler. And it flies great.
