I have a Saito 270 twin which has stripped threads in the head for the glow plug. I as much as this is an out of production engine and you must buy the cylender which is attahed to the head I am looking for another way to repair the glow plug threads.
Any suggestions. Heli coils are not available in the correct thread size I have been told.

I had that happen on Saito 72 and they replaced it at no charge. But I bet they won;t do it for me again. Your next best option is to send the egnine to Clarence Lee. Check out the back of an RCM magazine, he has an ad for engine repair. He can install a heli coil for a fraction of the cost of a new cylinder.

Heli coils are produced in the 1/4-32 size but it is my understanding that due to little demand that they are not packaged in consumer size kits but the installation tool and coils are only sold in industrial kits with bulk coils and this is at a cost much more than a new engine. This is probably why Mr. Lee has enjoyed such a thriving business over the years doing this. Your best bet is to get ahold of him and if I remember correctly he only charges about ten dollars a hole.
