Perry pump

Hi there,
I wish to use a VP-30 Perry pump on the front engine of my almost finished C 337 due to the tank distance from carb.
Do I need to use a Perry carb with it ?
Thanks.

Hi, I've got 4 K&B's w/perry pumps (2 .40's+2.61's) and they all have a "big bore" perry carb. I remember when they first came out,we were told that you had to have a specially calibrated carb, or it would'nt run right...But in the years since, I've seen several without the big carb. You need one with a good adj. idle mixture (commonly called two needle, or words to that effect) and hopefully doesn't let it get too rich during transition from idle to wide open (and vice-versa) The older "air bleed" idle mixture, single needle carbs usually don't work well (not enough adjustability) The special pump carbs are still available from Conley.(sorry I don't have his web add. right off hand, but if you're interested I look it up.) I think they're about 40.-45.00 though...I've seen the pumps used w/ OS FX series engs. and work out ok, just takes a little fiddling with 'em is all...Good Luck!

I have two Webra 120s, a T. Tiger 120, a K&B 1.5, and an OS 61 FSR all running the P-30 pump, with normal carbs that came with the engines. No problem. Oldest one is 10 years old.

It depends on which engine and carb you have. Some carbs will handle the pressure from the pump, some will not. Best bet is to call Perry and ask. They always give you accurate advice and recommendations.

All of the engines I mentioned above have stock factory carbs--Webra, T. Tiger, K&B, and OS 7D. No problems with any of them.
I understand some engines might require a special Perry carb, but I haven't seen any that do. This recommendation may have come forward from the days when air bleed carbs were common, and it is my understanding they won't work with the pump.

those recomendations were for the old perry crankshaft driven pump mounted on the back of the engine. the p-30 is a seperate pump mounted independantly to improve fuel supply on problem systems.

The original Perry pumps were installed in the backplate, they came on(in) K&B's, O.S.'s, and were available for a few others shortly after. They were NOT crank driven, they both operate from crankcase pressure variations (fluctuations). They both do exactly the same thing, just from a different location. The P-30 came along later so we modellers could enjoy their benefits on engines not originally so equipped. Any engine w/ a GOOD, MODERN carb. will benefit from more even running from a full to empty tank. Tank location is not critical, and you can use a bigger tank if so desired...Aerosplat put it short + to the point, I was trying to say that some carbs go rich and the eng. "loads up" in the mid range, because they can't handle the pressure...So you have to "fiddle" w/getting the regulator adj. set properly. The old air bleed carbs (which were much more common then, early-mid 70's) just plain couldn't take it. Check out some "Engine Clinic" articles from around then, if your curious. ( I've been doing this since '74, so please forgive me if I ramble a bit, is that my age showin'???) Regards,Pl365322...

Hi,
I really like the shape of this plane.
I cannot tell how mine flies. It is not fully finished.
Unfortunetly here in North Europe, flight time is almost revoked due to the bad weather.
So it will be for next spring. It will give me time to complete it (finally).
Mine is a Marutaka kit = lots of wood to put together + I like to modify every kit.
I ad flaps, landing / anti collision lights and perhaps some wheel brakes but it is already quiet heavy so ??.
What is the provenience of yours? Fantastic anyway.
By the way, did you see the movie BAT 21?
I don't know how many time I saw it.
Take care.
