Default Problems with Saito 91FA

Hello all,
I have this used Saito 91 FA that I got from a friend (by used I mean it has been running over 2 or 3 gallons of fuel.
The engine is installed upside down. I have replaced the glow plug with a new hanger 9 plug.
The fuel I’m using is 15% nitro Omega fuel. I don’t have the manual so don’t know the correct setting.
Here is the problem I have with the engine.

1.Engine starts very easily and idle perfectly with the glow heather on. As soon as I take the glow heather off the engine dies.
2.Again with the glow heather on, if I move the throttle suddenly from idle to full, the engine hesitate for a sec or 2 and then dies
3.If I move the throttle slowly from idle to full, the engine hesitate a lot and runs very rough.

I have opened the high speed needle valve at around 1.5 turns. Not sure if this is the correct setting.
I have leaned the low speed needle about 1 turn to get a good idle.

Can someone help me with the correct setting or what seems to be the problem with the engine?
Also is the manual for this engine available somewhere online?

Thanks
Borna

Borna:

Toss the Hangar 9 plug. With an OS "F" plug at least 1/2 your trouble will go away.

There's a private Saito site that has very good instructins on adjustment - maybe someone can post the URL?

From my experience, the H9 Four Stroke Super Plug runs as well as a OS "F" plug.

Before you go too far, try some new fuel....

Enjoy,

Jim

Your symptoms indicate the engine is running rich. Inverted engines do have that problem. But usually after starting and warmed up, the problem goes away. All the transistion etc. indicate the engine is very rich. Follow the Saito insturction on tuning or use the info on the Saito web page, it is excellent.

With only a few gallons through it, it is still new. Just needs to be tuned.

Cheers,

Chip
