Without knowing whether your engine is a two or a four-stroke (I'm not familiar with Magnum's nomenclature), I can say that an 11x8 would be fine for either type of engine. An 11x5 is a little too light for either type. The 11x5 won't hurt the two-stroke, but I would be a little wary of running a four-stroke .61 that fast.
An 11x8 or a 12x7 should be about perfect for a glow .61, whether two or four-stroke. Your MAS 11x8 should be just fine.

Will an ASP FS61AR handle an 11x8 MAS prop?
I have an 11x5 on it at the moment, but I find I am flying at 3/4 to full throttle all the time. Engine is on a .40 size Super Chipmunk.
Only other prop I have on hand is a 12x4, but that will most likely be worse. More thrust, but not enough airspeed?

Thanks Ed,
It is the 61 four stroke model.
I should have made that clearer.
I have another question.
Anyone out there got a head from an ASP/Magnum .91 4 stroke they want to part with?
My 91 was damaged a couple of days ago. Where the exhaust screws into the head got stripped.
Willing to pay shipping from anywhere in the world.
The cost of a new head from the states at the moment means it would be more than half the cost of a new engine. If I have to pay that much I would probably prefer to just buy a new engine and keep this one for spares. But if I can get a good condition used head that would make things a lot easier and cheaper.
Thanks
Scott

RE: Club MAGNUM !
Thanks w8ye.
Wasnt sure how everything sealed etc.
Got another quick question for you 4 stroke guru's.
On my ASP .61 FS I can hear air hissing out of the exhaust when I turn it through the compression stroke.
The engine doesnt have much compression either (6 tanks of fuel through it roughly).
I reset the valve clearances, but it still did it. So I backed both valve adjusters right off and I can still hear air hissing out of the exhaust pipe through the compression stroke.
Motor has never had very good compression and it is erratic the whole way through the rev range. In the air I can see smoke most of the time, but every now and then the smoke will disappear for a few seconds then come back.
I have replaced all the plumbing and the tank and I also changed the fuel filter for a new one and clamped all the fuel lines to make sure it wasnt an air leak in the fuel system. There are no bubbles visible in the fuel lines while it is running on the ground.
If the valve is bent or has a bur or something on the exhaust valve seat, could this cause erratic running as well as the loss of compression?
Sorry for the long winded question. Wanted to cover all bases.

RE: Club MAGNUM !
Its only a very slight leak so I will yank the head and see if I can lap the valve in like you suggested w8ye.
I would send it back GhostRider, but I love tinkering with engines so I will give the lapping a shot.
I read somewhere that toothpaste can be used to lap the valves in these engines. Is this effective or should I be using a proper valve grinding paste used for full scale engines?
I have various tubes of valve grinding paste from my reckless teenage years hotting up GM V8's. Tho the finest paste for the full scales might be a bit harsh for the seats on these engines?

RE: Club MAGNUM !
Its ok I got off my lazy **** and did a search.
TONS of threads on lapping valves.
Had me scratching my head why this engine wouldn't pull the plane with an 11x6 prop. Another guy at the field has the same engine and his will pull a similar size/weight plane with the same prop a lot better.
Am guessing that I am down on power cause of loss of compression.
Thanks for all the input.

There is nothing on the Sanye website
There is nothing on the Sanye website
I hope that Sanye's latest cloned versions of OS engines demonstrate similar power/running characteristics to OS' present new four-stroke engines, but manages to keep the prices at a more realistic level.
What would really be nice is to see the latest Sanye four-stroke releases offered in no nitro versions with a choice of either a methanol cylinder head, or an ethanol/E85 cylinder head. Of course, these parts should be offered as accessory purchases, after buying the basic engine with either the nitro head or the ethanol head.
The engines should come from the factory with a provision for running an optional spark ignition system. A thrust driver washer (first thing behind the prop) should be offered that has the necessary magnet already installed. Offering such an engine will increase the modeler's enjoyment of the product and it will also be profitable for the manufacturer.
Exhaust systems set up to mount the muffler's main body on the model's fuselage with a flex pipe arrangement between the muffler body and the engine's exhaust outlet would also prove to be popular. Just think of how nice it would be to never have to worry about the muffler coming loose and needing retightening. Also, mufflers could be made large and quieter when one does not have to worry about supporting all of the muffler's weight by a single point on the engine's cylinder head. No more broken out cylinder heads threads to worry about either.

RE: Club MAGNUM !
The better they look, the faster they go. Some added blue should be worth at least 500 RPM. Now if they went with red valve covers, that would be worth more, say around 1000 RPM. The Magnum stickers made my plane fly better, so more color should make the engines run better too.
