I didn't read Clarence's review of this engine.
I agree that you have to set up the engine as the instructions indicate and for the reasons you have stated. Do that and it runs just fine with no extra wear.
I never was one of the converts to using lower oil content. Extra oil never hurt a thing. Too little, well, we all know the answer to that question.

Ed, it is one of the finer engines I have, it was on two different LT 25s both modified with nose gear, lastly it was inverted on a ModelTech Cub that I never liked much, too much like trying to fly a butterfly. WR had it for a while and like it too. I have another LT 25 ready to cover for it. In my Saito on 5% nitro experiment it ran great at full throttle but didn't idle very well although it didn't quit. I can't imagine anyone not liking it.

I take it that you are referring to the Saito .30, Hobbsy?
I was surprised by my friend's report on the engine. I know he is a good two-stroke man and with his brains, four-strokes should be an easy adaptation. Glad to hear that yours was good, if you were referring to the Saito .30.
When it came time to buy two .30 four-strokes for various projects, I bought OS's, because of my friends dissatisfaction. That is how much faith I had in his evaluation. Oh well, both are good engines, I guess.

Sorry Ed, I was in fact referring to the Saito .30, only half a cup of coffee so far. As you can see WR gave it back to me with a black cylinder which I like. I don't know if he was showing off or having fun but I was pleased. He borrowed it for an upcomming Saito maintainance seminar he's planning. I hope that wasn't a secret. For fun I tried a Cline regulator to see if such a small engine would work with one, it worked fine.
