To me its the Get Dizzy and Fall Down kinda flying. Fun to watch the competitions though, SIGhas one every year.

There was mentioned in another thread someplace, where a guy flies control line using a RC system with elevator and throttle. He tethers the airplane to a post and flies it CL while sitting in a chair.
Yeah I have the same problem with CL nowadays. I get dizzy if I do it for too long in the circle too. I tried it a number of years ago, it was ugly.

I tried to do CL with my sons about 4 years ago to get them into something simpler than RC since they were fairly young. I couldn't do it, I could barely stay standing up. What's up with that? I know you are supposed to focus on the plane only and ignore the background, but that didn't work anymore for me.

Anybody know why my photos post so poorly ( one thumbnail the other full size).

Long time no talk between you and I.
RCU have changed service and got new servers and the problem appeared.
RCKen (RCUniverse manager) has technicians working on that problem.
He hopes something can be done soon.
Manwhile we can post one picture at a time and add pics one at a time by editing.
How you doing ?
Merry Xmas and all best wishes for the New Year 2011.

Here is a pic of one of my later model Eagle .60's compared to the venerable Fox Eagle engine. I think it is a Eagle IV version. But it shows how Fox made the newer Eagles much beefier than the small .60.

They had to enlarge the case because of the larger intake bore through the crankshaft, IIRC.

The trick to flying control line without getting dizzy is to stare at the model and ignore the background.

Does anyone out there have an early Fox Eagle 1 with a bushed rod? I had one a few years ago and now I got one from Bob Boumstein NIB and when I went to clean out the castor oil gunk I noticed it had an unbushed rod. The big end has a real small edge around the crank pin, not much aluminum there, I hope it lasts long.

This illustrates why you MUST use fuel with lots of castor oil in many of the old Fox engines. In fact, it is a good policy for nearly all of the engines made by Fox. And many other manufacturers too.
I have several Fox Eagle first series engines, but I don't remember checking any of them for connecting rod bushings. I'll have to get them out and give them a gander.
Remember when Fox made the Tower brand baffle piston .60? I wonder if those engines were any different, other than the black anodized piece up near the prop? One or two of my Eagle ones have that black anodized piece, of which I cannot remember its name.

I remember the "Tower .60" Duke made for TH. I believe it was near the end of production when the new Eagle .61 V2 Schneurle was made. It is important to use lots of castor with all the Foxes that had the plain 2024 T3 rods without bushings. I almost forgot, the crank case had a clearance milled out for the bushed rod didn't it? Or did the crank pin get turned down to a smaller dia to accommodate the bushing.

RE: Club FOX!
On a completely different topic, I'd like to give kudos to Fox and specifically Sharon for going above and beyond when it comes to customer service. I recently bought a Fox .15 RC on a trade-in deal. This past week I decided to work on breaking it in for a plane I'm building (Slow Poke .15). After about 5 minutes on the break-in stand, following the directions and using extra castor fuel, the provided glow plug just quit working. I replaced it with an old OS A3 and the engine started and ran fine. Put the Fox glow plug back in and it wouldn't start. OS plug back in...started up.
I e-mailed Sharon asking about it, and after asking the tech, they couldn't figure out why it happened, probably just a bad plug. So she mailed me TWOnew Fox glow plugs free of charge.
FOX!!
Love my Fox engines, and when the guys at the field give me a hard time about them I'll just smile...

You can also laugh when yours powers past others of the same size!
As for the plug, it's not uncommon for a new motor to eat plugs until all the surfaces wear in. I also find the A3 plug works much better in cold weather. The #8 has a tendency to load up at anything under full tilt.

It is quite common for a glow plug to die when running a new engine. The tiny metal particles inside the engine, that slough off as the engine is breaking in, contaminate the glow plug coil causing it to fail. I keep a small box of old used glow plugs left over from troubleshooting recalcitrant engines at the flying field. When I have a problem, if i suspect the glow plug, I swap it out for a new one and put the old one in the box. I used the old glow plugs when breaking in new engines. Now if the glow plug is bad it gets thrown away of course. What I hate is a glow plug that becomes contaminated somehow, and although the glow coil is looking good and glows a nice red color, the engine won't run with it. I throw those away too.

RE: Club FOX!
the reason for a glow plug to glow but not run an eng. is that the element gets coted with silicas from some fuel additives. had it happen to me. i think clarence lee mentioned this in an article he wrote in M.A.N. mag. some years ago now.

I've been trying to upload a pic of the Eagle to see which version it is, but have been unable for a couple of days. Anyone else having trouble?

I haven't been successful at getting the forum to accept any of my pics yet. Plus the forum recently upgraded to a new server and apparently they are having problems getting all the details worked out.
I haven't opened up any of my old Fox Eagle 1's at all, soI can't tell you whether any of the rods are bushed or not. But on some rods, you pretty much have to pull the rod out of the engine to see the bushing inside. I wonder if someone made another rod for your engine or not, as I don't remember Fox putting in extra thin rods, usually the rods are fairly robust looking.
