[b]I think the US Postal Service is on a deliberate slow down for the last month or so. Probably because they are planning to ask for another undeserved rate increase.
Examples:
Airplane kit from New Hampshire to Florida, six weeks.
Priority mail from Arizona to Florida, 3 1/2 weeks.
Second Priority from Arizona to replace the "Lost" one, two weeks.
Priority mail from Florida to Louisiana, four weeks.
All these were mailed well in advance of the two recent hurricanes, all should have been delivered before New Orleans was hit, much less Galveston/Houston.
Bill.

1)Did you have the package insured when you sent it to J.E.?
2)Does J.E. offer to ship the package with or without insurance?
3)Is it standard practice for J.E. to ship motors without insurance?
4)Who made the choice to ship it without insurance?

To hobbys
On a saved document from Just Engines dated
09/05/05, I quote :
"Wilson
You should have had it by now."
Giving it at least two to three weeks for normal
delivery prior to 09/05/05, that is pretty close to
7 weeks or more not 3 weeks.

The truth of the matter is that Bens' engine was shipped precisely three weeks ago, not months ago.

[b]For those who have not investigated - insurance for international mail is outrageously expensive, the premiums approach the face value of the insurance.

The last package we got from Germany arrived 3 weeks ago. It took 12 weeks, normal mail. We had given up on it. Germany has privatized their mail system. And it's become really bad.

So that means that motors are routinely shipped without insurance and when you order there is a 1 in 100 chance that you will get nothing in return?-- Pretty sure I would not buy anything that way.

You as the buyer have nothing to lose especially if you used your credit card for the purchase. The seller, OTOH, has to do a risk assesment as to whether he will use the insurance or eat any losses resulting from non-delivery.

Isn't that what this thread is about? Apparently there is risk?

Yep. And the risk lies squarely on the shipper regardless of which way it is being shipped.

Could have fooled me. Most participants in this thread seem to think this Paul guy is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and Benny is being unreasonable.

Guys this will be my last comments and final
post to this thread. We can close it and move on.
1) Thanks to all of you for some great comments
on shipping, carriers, insurance, responsibilities,
time frame for overseas mail, lost parcels and
other experiences.
2) It's only an engine.
3) Paul, thanks for your help in this matter. I pray
that your health returns and all is well.
