Default Prop Nut Problem....

So I bit the prop into the cement driveway today, and when I was trying to take the prop nut off (I have one of those Aluminum Vortex spinners)....it wouldn't come off...to take it off I would grab a prop blade...and then try to wrench off the prop nut, but I end up just turning over the engine....like it's not unscrewing off....I could probably describe the problem better if needed...any help on how to get it off again would be great...

Try a little heat.

If that doesn't work, try some solvent after it cools

People also stuff heavy string in the combustion chamber to hold the piston

Don't you just love it when stuff like this happens?

Seems to be a common thing when you thread an aluminum nut onto a steel prop shaft. The aluminum galls a bit, and binds up on the threads. Whatever..

I've always just twisted the prop a bit to put some friction on the drive washer and that seems to allow the nut to be removed.

Alternately, you might try heating the nut a bit with a monokote heat gun to free it up.

Good luck

An air wrench like this will spin the nut off in an instant.

FBD.

Dave, Are you flying that US 40 now? Mine does not have the counter balance rudder either? What engine you using?

Mine has a Saito 50 now did have a 56 on it. I love it. I flew the devil out of it for two years but not lately. Hobbsy gave it to me.

Yes, I still have one....about three years old. It has the regular tail. I
didn't know they came with the other rudder. Mine is braced for
heavy G's, and the wing mount is reinforced, but that's about it.

The one I have must be from when they first came out because it had been around a while when dave gave it to me. I have another newer one with the new style rudder. It is Red/Blue/White

Mmm..nope not at all, it was a thick wire, probably like 8 guage if I had to guess, somebody suggested heavy string, but didn't have any twine or anything laying around, so I just stuck that in there, they weren't bare wires or anything, I just needed something to push back on the piston so I could get that prop nut off...
