RE: OS engines users Club
This engine it is far easier to start with an electric starter. You don't need to place the tank close to the engine. In fact the purpose of the pump is to have the choise to place the tank where ever you want. Myself placed the tank right on the center of gravity. Use Minnflyers advice and go for 15% fuel, I used an APC 16x6 prop, if you are looking for more speed go for a 15x8.
I followed the instructions included in the box and my engine started on the first attemt and stayed running. It is a sweet engine with an amazing sound to it.

I used a 14-6 on mine and continue to use that size.

My Enya 80-4C ran well pulling a MAS 14x6, but I didn't really have sufficient ground clearance on my CGM Anniversary Cub to keep using it. I instead ended up using a MAS 13x6, which really let the Enya 80-4C (really .74 CID) turn up. I was surprised to find that the engine and plane with the 13x6 prop was actually quite a hotdogger.
I wish now that I had tossed the factory aileron torque rods and installed separate servos with larger ailerons, a larger rudder and braces between the vertical/horizontal stabs. I built mine with the full length wing. I should build another one. <G>

How long was it submerged? The engine was shipped with the insides coated with oil. Maybe there was enough to protect the steel parts for a short time. Pull the back plate and glow plug and give it a good dose of WD-40. Blow this out and follow with your normal after run oil. Check for rust while you have the back plate off. If you don't want to do all this, flood it with WD through the crankcase vent and glow plug hole, then fire it up as soon as possible and see how it runs. Do you have a test stand?

To anyone who hasn't had to go through their engine and is curious what the spiral gear drive for the O.S. camshaft looks like, I pulled this photo off the web. I haven't seen it posted here at RCU before.

RE: OS engines users Club
Finnally the Os Fs-200U is here in Norway.
I just ordered this engine and will give a report whith maybe a small video when i recieve it.
They say it is only 1.83 lb (830 g)
+ muffler and that is light. I wonder what they have done to make this engine lighter than theyr 120?
If it runs as god as my 120 i will be happy.

RE: OS engines users Club
Morning Gents,
I haven't followed this thread all the way back to the begining but I like to ask a question that may have been addressed before. Does anyone have any negative impressions with the remote needle valve location on the OS FX engines? Do you find that the remote NV location directly effects the precision of tuning the carb mix? I'm looking to buy a new O.S. .91 FX and don't have experience with remote needles.
Also, does anyone have any experience mounting the engine at 45 degrees, or inverted, with a remote needle valve … how well does that work?
Thanks!

RE: OS engines users Club
z-plane, there were problems with some of the early .91FX engines and the remote needle assembly. I have one of these early engines and although I never had any problems with it, I upgraded to the newer needle valve. I've had no problems at all with any of my O.S. engines and their remote needle valve. It would seem that one advantage of the remote valve is that if it has started to suck air, you can spot the bubbles in the line to the carb. On a carb mounted needle valve, this is not possible. My expensive Jett engine has a remote needle valve, if this tells you anything.

Waco Driver,
I noticed you have an OS 80 H R/C. I just recently purchased a new one and was wondering how you like yours. What is the best combination of prop and fuel for this beauty?
Thanks,
Andrew

RE: OS engines users Club
Hi guys, new member here.
Been into rc for 19 yrs. Started with a Kyosho motorcycle,
was flying a Byron A4 Skyhawk ducted fan by 95 and put everthing away
around 97 after I lost interest in flying and did 10scale nitro onroad for a few more years.
It's been around 10 yrs since I've flown. I have a laser 200 arf with the 46SF,
a perry pump and stock exhaust. It crashed way back when and was put it away
with a busted mount and some slight cosmetic damage... no engine afterrun oil or anything
There it sat for 10 yrs in a garage in a norther climate.
This spring I cleaned out my garage and decided to pull everything out and do some flying.
Did some prepwork and put some prather after run in the cylinder and spun it a bit.
I have a gallon of 10% fuel with additive to make a smoke trail from a ducted fan
and it had evaporated about 3 inches from top in 11 yrs.
Moral of the story.... Today a dirty old OS 46SF-ringed engine put away with no cleaning,
left in cold wet garage for 10 yrs,
using old evaporated 10% fuel,
fired right up and ran great!!
No Flameouts, nothing but air.
I think it was running 2-3k slower but not sure how much, tach battery was dead.
Ran well enough to fly the lazer just fine.
btw: the laser200 was made for a 60 size engine but I adapted it to fit the 46
and I also used a 11x7 APC instead of the usual 10x7 Zinger I run.
I think that says alot for O.S. Engines.
Here's what I have/had:
FP25 - ran ok, sold with 25 trainer
FP40 - ran ok, let friend use it his plane...
he thought the piston looked to dirty
so he sanded the piston. duh, enough said!
SF46-ringed - runs great in upright or 90 mounting but
was prone to flameout running inverted in
a dago red mustang, hot plug helped
SF46ABC-P - ran great in patriot 40 with os pump and mac pipe,
have not tested it yet. That next
Just wanted to share my story of reliability
Glad to be back

RE: OS engines users Club
Hi everyone,
PLEASE!!!!!!! can anyone help with a carb housing for an OS 120 FS Series, not the Series 111 apparently that won't fit...but y'all can happily prove me wrong, I don't want to have to throw the engine away it still has at least another 5 years in her.
