Default Moki Update

Own a Moki? You should read this!
I purchased a Moki used on ebay so I have been searching the forums for all the Moki info I can find. A few key things stand out as far as support from venders/suppliers.

1. Dave Patrick Models sells a line of motors nearly identical to the Moki that comes from the same plant as the Moki. For all practical purposes, replacement parts would be the same. Apparently some mods have been made to use higher percentage nitro than a Moki.

2. Morris Hobbies sells the Mark line of engines identical to the Moki that comes from the same plant as the Moki. For all practical purposes, replacement parts would be the same.

3. And finally, Just Engines from the UK sells Moki but because of trade issues/aggrements cannot ship to the US. They can however ship replacement parts (I think).

Why do I bring this up again?
I called Dave Patrick Models to order a part and was asked if I OWN a DP Motor. "I said no, I have a Moki."
I was told word for word "We cannot not support Moki engines" and they would not sell me replacement parts. She stated "We have a limited supply and limited resources so we can only support the Dave Patrick motor". She spoke in manner as to say I’m sorry, but we just can’t help you. I have two thoughts on this.
1. Must be nice to turn down business in the hobby industry.
2. I understand they have a limited supply and staff. It's great to hear they are devoted to their customers who have purchased DP engines. Hopefully in the future, they can expand on their capabilities and be able/willing to help out Moki flyers as well.

The second reason I bring this up is because I also called Morris Hobbies. The guy I spoke to asked me to call back in 10-15 minutes as the person I need to speak to had stepped out. Before I hung up he said "Don't delay, we are shipping the entire line back and you will not be able to get anything through us". I said "Nothing for Mark or Moki?" He says "No...it's...their.. No " As if he was biting his tongue not to say more. I called back a bit later and ordered my part.

I just though the Moki guys would all like to hear this news as I experienced it first hand.
The woman at Dave Patrick Models was very nice and did refer me to both Morris and Just Engines. I hear Just Engines has excellent service and shipping stuff back and forth is never an issue. If I need anything else, that’s where I'll be going.

Don't sweat it man.

As long as you don't crash your Moki--you'll not need any parts for a very long time. You'll get many, many years of reliable service from a Moki before it ever needs parts.

By the time you need parts for it--they are likely to have been discontinued anyway.

Dave Patrick is not doing themselves any good by not supporting Moki's?

I know that Paul Landels at Just engines will treat you right.

What's going on at Morris Hobbies this time?

Enjoy,

Jim

Yea, I'm really not too concerned. My main reason for posting was to share my experience and let people know to not bother with DP or Morris. Go strait for Just Engines. I didn't need the part but wanted to have it just in case. I have the radial backplate but, If I ever decide to use a different engine mount I wanted to have the regular back plate ready for action. I'm still looking for a manual. I have no idea how to set the carb on this thing. I have the 1.35. I'll email Just Engines tonight and ask if they sell manuals.

Rocko,

Look over the Just Engines site real well. There are several reviews on the Moki there and also some exploded views like this....

The DPM way of dealing with Moki parts is new to me. I never was interested in their engines anyway, I like the Moki/Morris engine tuned for 0% nitro. Fuel consumption is very low IMO. If I bought another, and I'm not sure if I ever will, I would probably go to Morris. Maybe Morris got burned too and is getting out. There are still NIB Moki's out there. I see them at swap meets.
